THE DEN10: DECEMBER 11

Can things just go back to normal please? Apparently they can't until the cluster of this weekend's rescheduled events combined with what was an already very busy weekend finishes up. The good news is that we won’t have to use our Yaktrax or 4 wheel drive for another three years because this is Texas. This past weekend also proved once again that if you want precipitation to fall from the sky (either frozen or not) just plan a large scale outdoor event that depends on good weather.

Subsonic Indulgence | Andy’s | 9PM | FREE

Friday December 13
A Spune Christmas: Robert Gomez / Moonbather / The Days / Blessin’ / Tiger Tooth & PAW | Dan’s Silverleaf | 7PM | $8
Same deal as what was canceled last week. You know the drill, free tacos and music.

Denton Holiday Lighting | The Courthouse Lawn | 5:30PM
This will be a lower-key event with no hay or carriage rides and the streets won’t be blocked off. We’re imagining the humble townsfolk gather around our meek and mild tree as we hold hands and spontaneously sing a song. “Every Who down in Whoville, the tall and the small was singing, without any presents at all.”

Wassail Fest | The Square | 5:30PM | FREE WASSAIL
Bring your Wassail judging face and a flask of rum to spike your favorite drink. This is a great way to enjoy the chaos and take a peek into downtown business' Christmas wares while having a nice evening stroll around the square.

New Fumes / Nervous Curtains / Visceral Cuts / Grandma / DJ YeahDef | Rubbergloves | $3 | 9PM

Sunday December 15
Liquor Store / Video / Fogg | Rubbergloves | 9PM $5
Not a shabby Sunday evening lineup for any venue in Denton. Liquor Store will be sure to finish thawing your chilled bones.

Monday December 16
Bourbon Barrel Beer Week | OSDH & ESSC | 7PM
They’re starting off the week with a Rahr Bourbon Barrel Winter Warmer and an Anderson Valley Bourbon Barrel Oatmeal tapping at OSDH and ESSC respectively. Both of those sound good enough to drink.

THE DEN10: SEPTEMBER 25

Its hard to believe we're staring into October already. Once it gets going it really doesn't slow down until you find yourself trying to figure out how to get home for the holidays. Well there is once again plenty to take advantage of in our 'tiny little boring town' this week. From a Breaking Bad watch party at Dan's to a pop-up Wine dinner at Chestnut Tree, there is a ton of variety to keep you busier than you should be. Make sure to hashtag #WDDI in your Instagram or Facbook pics from the weekend if you want to be featured in our Monday post, What We Did. If you happen to run an establishment and are a little clever, this could be a way to show off your stuff on one of our most popular posts of the week. Just an idea.

Wednesday September 25
Midlake / Doug Burr  | Dan's Silverleaf | 8PM | $15
As of this moment there are six tickets left to the second night of Midlake's World Tour of Denton 2013. They should be wrapping up their first set as I write this and I'm wondering if there will be a positive reaction to there being half as many flutes as previous lineups of this hometown favorite. I also wonder which show Jason Lee will be at. At any rate, we'll always be a sucker for their 2004 effort, Bamnan & Silvercork.

Thursday September 26
Daniel Markham / Brent Best / Christian Lee Hutson | Dan's Silverleaf | 9PM | $7
Christian Lee Hutson's got a voice with some serious songwriting chops. At least enough to hang with the other heavy hitters on this bill. Be prepared to be impressed by the craftsmanship of everyone that gets on Dan's stage this Thursday.

EYE PLAY | UNT North Gallery | 5PM | FREE
Holli Noelle Hays will be displaying some of her favorite prints accompanied by light refreshments.

Friday September 27

Ella Minnow / Savage & The Big Beat / The Cozy Hawks | Dan's Silverleaf | 9PM | $5
Remember Jurassic Park The Musical? Classic Denton.

Babar / Blessin' / Feverbones / Dome Dwellers | Rubbergloves | 9PM | $5
Here's a pretty diverse lineup of some of the most talented active bands we've got. I also really approve of their event page because it's got everything I need as far as info about where, when and how much it is PLUS it's got some links to all of the band's music. Really good work fellas; on the music and the promotion.

Sparkling Wine Dinner | The Chestnut Tree | 6:30PM |

Each course of this dinner will be served with a different sparkling wine. Most of the items seem to be locally sourced even down to the Kurobota Pork Loin that they'll be stuffing with spinach. Chestnutt always knocks it out of the park with these sorts of special pop up dinners so be sure to take advantage of them when they pop up.

Saturday September 28
7th Annual Oktoberfest | Cool Beans, Riprocks, Lou's | 6PM | $12

For a measly dozen dollars you'll get a commemorative t-shirt, 3 authentic steins and all you can eat germanish food like brats and kraut. All this plus live polka music and you've got yourself an Octoberfest situation on Fry St.

Sunday September 29
The Dramatic Final Episode of Breaking Bad | Dan's Silverleaf | 7PM | FREE
From what I hear and if you've been watching this show, you should probably watch this one so why not have a few drinks up at Dan's while you're at it.

Last Sunday's Open Shop | Tex's Tubs Drum Co | 11AM - 4PM
Feel like fixing something with some tools at a shop and having a potluck also? This has turned into quite a gathering of folks handy with tools, handily handing them to those without so they can fix their gear. We love that this happens. It needs to happen more.

Tuesday October 1
The Tuesday Night Bike Ride | The Language Building UNT | 9PM | FREE
This has been going on for longer than I can remember. A mass group of riders taking over the mean streets of Denton on a Tuesday night. Seems like it'd be a pretty good time if you've got a bike.

WEEK IN REVIEW: MARCH 18

Monday March 18
Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers | Dan's Silverleaf | 8pm | $10 / $15

Wednesday March 20
A Birthday Show: Spooky Folk / Barbar / New Science Projects / Peopleodian / Cool Womb |  J&J's | 8pm | Free
A great collection of Denton house show veterans and the fresh (and one of our new favorites) Cool Womb. The event page promises that Cool Womb will start "promptly" at 8:30pm. I read that but I don't believe it. Either way -- this is a show you want to show up on time to.

Kraken Presents: Matthew Olzmann and Vievee Francis  I  Paschall Bar  I  6pm  I  Free Way better than your college grade open mic night - some super talented (published!) poets will be showing off their skills at the classiest bar in town. Put on your favorite tweed jacket, grab your smoking pipe, order yourself a scotch and soak up the culture.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: MARCH 14TH

Not too much going on this week unless your at SXSW but here are a few picks for the weekend for y'all.

Friday March 15th

House of Tinnitus Presents: Plack Blague / Violator X / Filth / Vulgar Fasion | Rubbergloves | 9pm | $1
I'd go to this just to find out what a "noise bummer session" is. That's definitely worth a dollar.
Max Stalling
| Dan's Silverleaf | 10pm | $12

Saturday March 16th

Milkdrive | Dan's Silverleaf | 9pm | $10
Self proclaimed "Jazz-grass" born from the remnants of the South Austin Jug band are always impressive if absoloutle shredding in every way possible impresses you.

WEEK IN REVIEW: MARCH 11

Not had enough? Ready for more? Good, 'cause this is Denton and naturally there's going to be some quality shows to attend for those of you who aren't diluted into thinking that playing Maggie Maes is going to get your "buzzworthy local act" signed this week.

Monday, March 11

Daniel Markham / Glossary / Water Liars | Dan's Silverleaf | 8PM | $7

Dead Leaf Echo / Joy Sores / Summer of Glaciers / Penny | Macaroni Island | 8PM | FREE
Another quality, free show from Macaroni Island. Remember kids, no jerks!

Tuesday, March 12
Beware the Dangers of a Ghost Scorpion / Savage & The Big Beat / Cool Womb | Dan's Silverleaf | 9PM | $5
Cool Womb is one of our recent favorites after seeing them in the J&J's Basement several months ago. It will be interesting to see how their rough around the edges brand of whatever you want to call it translates at Dan's.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: FEBRUARY 28TH

This weekend starts off strong, but kinda fizzles once Saturday comes along. If you know of something fun going on, please let us know in the comments!

Local faves Botany play Dan's Silverleaf this Thursday.

Local faves Botany play Dan's Silverleaf this Thursday.

Thursday, February 28th:

  • Free All You Can Eat Mac and Cheese Buffet | MacDaddy's | 7-10pm | Free
When we decided to open up our weekend previews to more than just music, this wasn't exactly what we had in mind, but c'mon, can you beat free macaroni and cheese especially when it's in buffet form? Quit your stupid paleo diet and carbo load before hitting up This Will Destroy You at Dan's.

Friday, March 1st:

  • Armadillo Ale Works Launching Party | Oak St. Drafthouse | 5-10pm | Free
You've already thoroughly enjoyed their two non-alcoholic beverages. Now it's time to pony on up to OSDH&CP on Friday to be one of the first to enjoy the official first beer of Armadillo Ale Works, Quakertown Stout. A free glass will come with your beer! Also, local awesome screen printing dudes, Pan Ector, will be there live printing AAW and OSDH&CP shirts, too. Can you beat that?
  • First Friday on the Square | The Square (mostly Oak St.) | Friday evening | Free
When you're done at OSDH, walk the block over to the square for more free Friday fun. Lots of fun stuff happens on first Friday. Businesses on Oak St. (and some on the square) will be having live music, etc... Make sure you stop by and check things out!
  • Cartright / Cozyhawks / Daniel Folmer | Dan's Silverleaf | 9pm | $5
Denton ex-pats, Cartright are coming back to town again to bring their specific brand of scorched vocal cord folk rock to the masses. Over the years, Austin has treated Ben Cartright well. Come see how. The odds on suspenders-usage currently sit at 2:1 for your show betting purposes.
  • Midnight Society / Diamond Age | Rubber Gloves | 9PM | $5/$7

Saturday, March 2nd:

Sunday, March 3rd

  • Hares on the Mountain - Dan’s Silvearleaf | 7pm | Free
And, as always, hit up Dan’s early Sunday evening for some always-good Americana for free, but you're already going to these shows, right?

WEEKEND PREVIEW - FEBRUARY 15TH

Friday, Feb. 15th:

Camp David/ Sophomore/ Chambers/ BabarVDAY.BDAY.PARTY.SHOW | 2300 W Oak St.

Trebuchet/ Descender/ Bad Design - Dan’s Silverleaf | 9:00pm | Show 10:00pm | $5
Trebuchet is the working-man band of Denton. They always put in their time and they always do a good job. Definitely looks like a good show to get the slime of Valentine's Day off of your back.

The Iron Claw/ Bubba Hernandez Y Los Super Vatos/ Fab Deuce  - Rubber Gloves | 9pm | $9
Fab Deuce is a local group of MCs and DJs that always put on a good show, but the name Bubba Hernandez Y Los Super Vatos has us itching to be at Rubber Gloves to check these guys out based solely on the name.

The ParamedicIt Lies WithinSurrounded By MonstersAspire/ I Am Man, I Am Monster/ Citadel/ Fist Meets Face/ My Dear Epidemic/ To Keep You Safe - Hailey’s | 7pm | $10 Over 21 | $15 under 21
All of these bands look “tough” in their band photos. So, there’s that. Also, It Lies Within has one of those awesome metal logos that is completely illegible.

Saturday, Feb. 16th:

Deep ThroatBitch TeethPrinces of FucktownEccotone - Rubber Gloves | 9pm | $5 or $7
The Reggie Watts-approved local ridiculousness that is Deep Throat takes the stage this Saturday at Rubber Gloves with a whole crew of other grossly interesting bands. If you wanna sleaze it up after a nice Thin Line doc, this is the place to be.

Denton Babe Bash featuring The Virgin Wolves/ The Red Death/ Sol TaxClassy San DiegoStormy Durant - Hailey’s 8pm | $5 Over 21 | $7 ages 18 -21
Uh... so apparently Class San Diego is a female-fronted local ska band that we didn’t know existed. Might be worth your $5 just for that alone. Besides that, this is a show featuring a bunch of women-as-frontperson bands.

Sunday, Feb. 17th:

Hares on the Mountain - Dan’s Silvearleaf | 7pm | Free
And you can of course hit up Dan’s early Sunday evening for some always-accountable Americana for free. Do you not do this already?

Oh, and Thin Line, too!

Also, here’s the entire schedule for the rest of Thin Line with our selections bolded. If you have not yet attended a Thin Line show, we highly encourage you to do so!
