DENTON DOES SXSW

Photographer Gregory Sells is dancing in between Texas A&M and NASA. The space agency and Texas university both have booths at the annual SXSW expo, but Gregory—rocking a vest studded with SXSW pins of the past—is too enraptured by the music of the North Texas symphony to notice where he is going. Thanks to a VR headset from the Denton CVB, Sells is enjoying a show at the Murchison even though he is 300 miles away in the jam-packed Austin Convention Center.

WHAT WE DID: MARCH 20TH 2017

Break is over and today is actually Spring Equinox. It is officially springtime in Denton, y'all if the high eighties temperatures didn't already inform ya. Time for the season of Arts and Jazz, scary storms, gardening, and being annoyed at your neighbor mowing at 7am on a Saturday. In the pros column, though, it is also time for those colorful springtime photos.

What We Did is our weekly "slice of life" photo post featuring images that have been tagged #WDDI in the past week on Instagram.

Below are 18 photos showcasing what life  has been like recently in Denton, TX. This week we see scenes from St. Patrick's Day celebrations, some spring time blooms, a Bearded Monk tattoo, and probably the best dog pic you'll see all week.

If you'd like to be included in What We Did, tag your Denton images with #WDDI on Instagram. Search the hashtag #WDDI and follow @WeDentonDoIt on Instagram to see even more great photos of Denton life.

NEW WEB DESIGN LEDES DRC INTO THE FUTURE

It’s a story as old as time—or at least as old as the internet: You hear about some breaking news (or new food truck) and use your laptop or smart phone to check out the Denton Record-Chronicle’s website. Maybe it fails to load, or maybe you’re just turned off by the lackluster layout. Luckily, the good folks over at the DRC launched a new webpage design that the newsroom brass believe alleviates the concerns and questions perplexing local readers.

THE DEN10: MARCH 15th

You thought Spring Break would be warm because it was in the 80’s in December? Yeah, that’s not how it works here in Texas. Here’s to hoping everyone left town for warmer climates this week and if you didn’t, let this be a lesson to you. And yes, we secretly love the times when the entire town up and leaves so we get the run of the place. It’s these times that make Murder-Kroger almost bearable at 6:30 AM.

THE DEN10: MARCH 10th

It’s campaign season again (In the Spring at the Time When Kings Go Off to War) and that means it’s time for another We Denton Do It Presents: Candidate Debate 2017. All candidates have been invited to attend this debate that will be moderated by Denton’s favorite moderator Jill Jester. Time will be kept by everyone’s favorite time keeper, Aaron “Fuzzy” Newquist of First State Bank. Our debate is scheduled late in the season as our intent was to give the road weary candidates a chance to reflect and give final statements before the citizens head to the polls for early voting the following week. Once again, Dan has been kind and gracious enough to lend us his venue, Dan’s Silverleaf. Anyways, it’s Spring Break 2017. See you all at Señor Tadpole's hash tagging your ‘grams #WDDI.
