In Denton, baristas are everywhere. Take a look to your left, there's probably one there beside you right now. Or even behind you. Watch out! In fact, chances are, you might even be a barista. See what we mean? Who are these people anyway? They are people, after all, real people - with hopes, dreams, and stories. They have more to offer than just your frothy, espresso drinks and iced vanilla mochas. So, that is why we are setting out to learn more about our beloved baristas - to interview them and learn about the people behind the bar. Sure, the coffee you made me today is from the Yirgacheffe region in Ethiopia, but tell me barista, what is your origin?

We at We Denton Do It like movies. Back in the day, we used to host a weekly movie night at the late Hydrant coffee shop (remember that, Nick?) it has since gone on to be two separate businesses. We're old. More recently, we've hosted outdoor movie nights on the Courthouse lawn. Its a fun time. We've seen a couple of first dates at our movie nights and even know a couple that is still together since the time we showed Fantastic Mr. Fox. Also, people have enjoyed the movies, too, so that's always a plus.

There have to be terms other than "family-friendly" that describe things in which both parents and children, alike, are not bored out of their skull at, right? It seems the term is most often used to describe movies that a parent can sit through and maybe chuckle twice. We've done our best below to collect a few "family-friendly" events that go beyond two chuckles in this week's Seen and Heard. Check 'em out below and have a great weekend!

Instead of throwing that cardboard coffee sleeve into the recycling bin, why not wear it as a cuff or a leg warmer? Sound weird? That's the type of thinking that went into the creation of Denton's Trashion Fashion Program. The award-winning program is now in its fourth year and keeps getting better and better. The City of Denton's Solid Waste and Recycling Department, SCRAP Denton, Keep Denton Beautiful and a few other awesome local organizations use the Trashion Fashion initiative to invite designers of all ages to create clothing (or what they call "wearable art") from materials that would otherwise end up recycled or in a landfill. College fashion design students enter, as well as pubic school students and adults. Every year, they see designs that really earn that "wearable art" title; impressive garbs from all ages made from items as inconspicuous as dryer sheets or newspaper clippings.
