Rumors of the demise of Denton's music scene are greatly exaggerated. In fact, it appears that the sudden changes in the landscape may have given it a good shot in the arm. This weekend marks the start of the highly anticipated UNT Football season, as well. All eyes will be on the new coach to see if he can pull off a few wins for the Mean Green.

It is officially Friday. The high school and college students have graduated which makes it that magical time in Denton when you can get in and out of Kroger in less than ten minutes. Whatever you're up to today, you probably need some Youtube time. Take a quick break, grab some caffeine, and watch the five videos we have for you below. This month's video post is music-focused and features the likes of Jessie Frye, Daniel Markham/Claire Morales, Stu Brootal, Pansy Moon, and some local folks dancing to JT's new song that has something to do with trolls somehow. If you know anything about Denton musicians, you probably know that Daniel Markham has been incredibly influenced by the late David Bowie. Bowie passed away at age 69 earlier this week after an 18 month battle with cancer.
Blackstar is an album that ultimately curated Bowie’s death and a rather large secret he had been carrying for months. His 27th studio album has left a tiny hole in many of our hearts, one that could not be filled with any amount of space dust or dancing. With the news of Bowie’s passing just four days ago, a short two days after his 69th birthday and the release of his final album Blackstar, we reached out to Markham for his thoughts on Bowie's legacy.

We have tons of travelling bands coming to our venues this week, so if you’re out and about be sure to check in at one of the places below and thank the musicians (read: buy merch) for coming through Denton! We saw ghosts, ghouls, goblins, Trumps, pumpkins, pumpkin-Trumps, and about a half dozen or so Leslie Knopes out on the streets this weekend. Also, let's take a quick aside to talk about how hard Sundown Blvd. at Ranchman gets down on Halloween. We heard tell of this block of houses that go all out and decided to trek over to South Denton to see what all of the fuss was about and we were not disappointed. Streets covered in fog, men with chainsaws chasing teenagers, and houses decorated to the nines were just a few of the things that make that area a trick-or-treaters paradise. We will definitely hit it up next year. Y'all know of any Denton neighborhoods that have them beat in terms of All Hallow's Eve?
