It is officially Friday. The high school and college students have graduated which makes it that magical time in Denton when you can get in and out of Kroger in less than ten minutes. Whatever you're up to today, you probably need some Youtube time. Take a quick break, grab some caffeine, and watch the five videos we have for you below. This month's video post is music-focused and features the likes of Jessie Frye, Daniel Markham/Claire Morales, Stu Brootal, Pansy Moon, and some local folks dancing to JT's new song that has something to do with trolls somehow. Check them all out below. We recommend playing them all at the exact same time and finding out what that sounds like.
Jessie Frye's video for her tune "Big Bad Wolf" from her EP Boy's Club premiered on TexasMonthly.com a few weeks ago and kinda rocks. TM said that the song, "drops surprisingly danceable hooks into songs that belie the ripped fishnets and caked-on-eyeliner aesthetics that Frye cultivates." While we're not sure why they needed to bring make up into a music review, we also love the 90's throwbacks in both the excellent song and hazy video.
We secretly really dig Justin Timberlake's new song from the Trolls soundtrack. Kimberly Holt recently uploaded a version of the video complete with Dentonites getting down to the music in front of a few local landmarks (i.e. Hypnotic Donuts, Mr. Frosty, etc...). Check them out in the video above.
Have y'all caught a show in which Daniel Markham and Claire Morales played together yet? If not, check out the above Sofar Denton video and you can see why you should.
Stu Brootal reminds you why you should be paying attention to Denton's Gitmo collective and is also a somber reminder of the time when Rubber Gloves existed as a unquestionable mainstay of the Denton club scene. Speaking of, y'all got your tickets for the shows this weekend?
Pansy Moon seems to have partially moved away and disbanded, but they left Denton after creating plenty of great music and live performances together. Above is just one such example which was recorded at a local Sofar Sounds show back in February. The video features the song "Oedipus on Ice."
