The upcoming 4th of July goes down amidst midweek heat, but first Denton Pride week is burning up our calendar, and meanwhile our nifty guide to Summer Fun in Denton offers cool ideas for beating the Texas heat without breaking the bank alongside the CVB’s Denton On A Dollar. A fabulously busy week of #DENTONING is ahead, thus we sort some top #DEN10 events to peruse, with some bonus PRIDE, but post your favorites we overlooked in the comments.


WEDNESDAY, June 27th

Denton Wine Walk | Downtown Denton Square | 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM  
Purchase a $10 wine glass and enjoy wine samples all evening from participating merchants. Wine glasses can be purchased online or at the square the night of while supplies last. (Only 500 will be available). Look for the red tables outside of Wine Squared or Steves Wine Bar. Walking with wine is a great way to explore Square Roots Community Art Show and the Harvest House Comedy Show just FYI!

THURSDAY, June 28th

Twilight Tunes | Denton County Courthouse On The Square | 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM  
The Denton Main Street Association proudly presents their award-winning FREE concert series in downtown Denton on Thursdays, this week it the Make Music Day jam! Admission is always FREE, so there is no reason you shouldn’t come out every week with your lawn chair or picnic blanket! Thursdays are also always hoppin’ downtown with a bicycle social ride at Eastside, live jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, gnoshes at Wine2, and a Spiderweb Salon Radio Poets before PRIDE Glitterbomb at Andy’s, so plenty of good choices around the Square.

FRIDAY, June 29th

Ring of Fire – The Music of Johnny Cash | Campus Theater | June 29-31 showtimes  
This unique musical illustrates the life of the iconic singer with more than two dozen classic hits—including “I Walk The Line,” “A Boy Named Sue,” “Folsom Prison Blues,” and the titular tune. Johnny Cash’s remarkable life story is told through his music, concluding with a concert that will both move and exhilarate!

Graciously hosted by Kylee Ohara Fatale and SinSational Sundays, Three Queens Tap Takeover and Drag Show features three incredible performers and three incredible beers: the Red Currant, Passion Fruit, and Mango Queen of the Mists from Martin House Brewing Company!

SATURDAY, June 30th

Denton Community Market | Denton County Historic Park | 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM  
The beloved Denton Community Market is the best way to ring in Saturdays, with all kinds of nifty crafty swag, produce, veggies, food, tours of the Bayless-Selby House, and live music! Browsing always pairs nicely with Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square.

PRIDENTON rally & march | Denton Courthouse Square | 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM
The second annual bash is out and proud and loud, with morning chalking before a Keep Families Together rally & PRIDE rally at 1pm. Then it’s a a march down to OSDH&CP and Harvest House for an afternoon filled with consciousness-raising celebrations of our amazing LGBTQ+ community! Check out their calendar of events between Thursday 6/28 and Sunday July 1 to catch drag shows, Queerlesque Sunday Brunch, and other soirees!  

We Denton Drag It! | BackYard On Bell | 6:00 PM - 12:59 AM  
We like to think of it as We Denton Do It with a cheeky TWIST and better make-up, but make no mistake, this evening full of musical performance & showmanship will be dazzling delightful fun! 100% of the proceeds from this event goes to OUTreach Denton and 4theone foundation - rescuing missing and exploited kids. This year's headliner is the Season 7 winner of RuPaul's Drag Race, the incomparable Violet Chachki

Okay, show of hands who is ready to get old school funky!? Join the legendary local supergroup for some rocking and rolling in little D well past your regularly scheduled bedtime!

SUNDAY, July 1st

Rainbow Bright Burlesque Brunch | Andy’s Bar | 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM  
Salty Lady is celebrating Pride in style with an amazing line up highlighting queer performers, comedians, Drunken Queer Trivia, and you can't have a Salty Lady show without Salty Jeopardy, all hosted by the amazing Lillith Grey!! So come by this PRIDENTON event for the sassy babes, stay for the laughs and don't forget to show off your PRIDE!!

1,000 Rose Bush Garden Tour | Gemini Peach & Rose Farm | 9:00 PM - 12:01 AM  
Come take a self-guided tour of 1,000 rose bushes grown in the Gemini Peach and Rose Farm by James (Jim) Herbison, a consulting rosarian certified by the American Rose Society who has an unwavering dedication towards growing beautiful roses and producing new varieties of roses. Mr. Jim has won the Dallas Rose Show with the "best hybrid tea" 5 times and won the Fort Worth Rose Show with the "best hybrid tea" 4 times, and his garden contains several unique-to-Denton varieties that we’ve written about in WDDI

WEDNESDAY, July 4th

Denton 4th of July | UNT Apogee Stadium | 9:00 AM - 10:30 PM
The 4th of July Yankee Doodle Parade will start its route beginning 9:00am at the Hickory-Locust corner of the Denton Square, going around all the way to the Civic Center. Since 1972 the Denton Noon Kiwanis Club has presented the 4th of July Fireworks Show. Parking is $10 per carload but entry into Apogee Stadium is FREE. No outside drinks are allowed inside the stadium, however a variety of concessions will be available for purchase. There will be a children’s activity area as well as live bands performing before the fireworks begin!
