Gonna be a HOT midweek 4th of July, so our nifty guide to Summer Fun in Denton offers a bounty of cool ideas for beating the Texas heat while the CVB’s Denton On A Dollar helps stretch your fun money. Another festive week of #DENTONING lies ahead, so here is our top #DEN10 events to peruse but post your favorites we missed in the comments.


WEDNESDAY, July 4th

Denton 4th of July | UNT Apogee Stadiu | 9:00 AM - 10:30 PM
The 4th of July Yankee Doodle Parade will start its route beginning 9:00am at the Hickory-Locust corner of the Denton Square, going ‘round all the way to the Civic Center. Since 1972 the Denton Noon Kiwanis Club has presented the 4th of July Fireworks Show. Parking is $10 per carload but entry into Apogee Stadium is FREE. No outside drinks are allowed inside the stadium, however a variety of concessions will be available for purchase. There will be a children’s activity area as well as live bands performing before the fireworks begin!

THURSDAY, July 5

First Thursday with Le Not-So-Hot Klub d'Denton | Barley & Board | 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM  
Twilight Tunes goes on hiatus during the dog days of summer, but you can savor the cool jazz sounds of Django Reinhardt courtesy of these Denton impresarios! Thursdays are also always hoppin’ downtown with a bicycle social ride at Eastside, live jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, gnoshes at Wine2, and plenty of good choices around the Square.

The Carl Finch Sound | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM  
Brave Combo’s energetic frontman is experimenting with some sonics and you probably want to hear what the buzz is about.

FRIDAY, July 6th

First Friday Denton | A Creative Art Studio | 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM  
Start out on the Square for a wanderabout tour of Denton’s lively Arts scene and take in some of the nifty exhibits on display!

Meet BBZ voice actress Tiffany Vollmer | Midway Craft House | 8:00 PM – 11:00 PM  
She probably sounds familiar if you ever watched Dragonball Z and the Midway folks are hosting a signing and selfie table to welcome Tiffany back to Denton for the holiday!

Last Chance Records Summer Hangout |Dan’s SilverLeaf | 7:00 PM - 11:59 PM  
The party lasts all weekend with an all-star line-up of talent and tunes! Friday features Slobberbone, Hamell On Trial, Adam Faucett & The Tall Glass, Daniel Markham, with Kim Nall & The Fringe, but more music-filled evenings on Saturday and Sunday are sure to this three day hangout your weekend happy place.

Beerman | Horny Toad Cafe | 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM  
Wanna throw back a few cold ones and enjoy some C&W standards? Denton’s Beerman Brian Houser is christening the new live music stage and invites y’all to c’mon out to see what its all about!

SATURDAY, July 7th

Denton Community Market | Denton County Historic Park | 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM  
The beloved Denton Community Market is the best way to ring in Saturdays, with all kinds of nifty crafty swag, produce, veggies, food, tours of the Bayless-Selby House, and live music! Browsing always pairs nicely with Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square.

Star Party | UNT Rafes Observatory | 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Our monthly opportunity to gaze at the stars with those who know ‘em best, only $5!  

Enigmatic | Q’s | 9:00 PM - 1:00 AM  
ICYMI Denton has a new LGBTQ+ hangout with Q’s Cafe!  Enigmatic Haus Collective is back for a night filled with Denton's most enigmatic queens and fabulous performances!  

SUNDAY, July 8th

Annual Queso Contest | Mulberry Street Cantina | 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM  
The Quest for the Golden Chejus? Last year’s queso challenge raised almost $1000 for the Denton Animal Shelter Foundation and this year they’re offering bags of chips at the door in exchange for a $5 donation to the DASF. Bring your favorite cheese joke.
