FREE COMIC BOOK DAY

Free Comic Book Day is one of the most anticipated events of the nerd year, always the first Saturday in May, when fans get a preview of upcoming projects involving their favorite icons or discover new characters. More Fun Comics and Games is celebrating its 15th year in Denton with a very special #FCBD guest, comics legend Scott Williams, who illustrated the Denton Batman #1 exclusive variant cover. After a day of in-store signings on the downtown Denton Square, the award-winning illustrator will be revealing his artistic beginnings, his storied career, and behind-the-panels tales of infamous projects in a very special Nerd Nite Denton event at the Bearded Monk on Saturday May 6 at 8pm.

THE DEN10: MAY 4th

Arts & Jazz is done, “Gala Season” has hung up it’s bow-tie and every single teacher in Denton is locked and loaded in the trenches doing battle with our students “senior-itis” which as it turns out, no effects everyone, in every grade, all the time. This week has all the distractions you need as you count down towards the summer which means travel, late nights with friends and movies. Denton is a truly magical place.

WDDI X STOKE: SHEPHERD DOG

Stoke is a co-working and entrepreneurial center in Denton, TX that plays host to a hotbed of some of Denton's most creative folks working in the tech scene. In this collaborative series, we speak with some of they key people that put in work at Stoke. In February, we spoke with President of TechMill and Drupal developer, Kyle Taylor. This month, we pick the two minds behind Shepherd Dog: Brandy Thomas and David Brunow. Shepherd Dog works with small businesses and non-profits to help them with technology services such as websites and app development. We talked with them about items such as working closely with a partner, their favorite small business projects, and whether or not they could win in an arm wrestling match with Kyle Taylor. WHAT WE DID: MAY 1ST 2017

What We Did is our weekly roundup of a few of the best photos that have been tagged with #WDDI in the past week on Instagram.

Below are 18 photos from the past seven days of life in Denton, TX. We ain't gonna lie; these photos heavily feature Arts and Jazz. That's mostly because that's what we all did last week, right? Aside from that, we've got some Twilight Tunes action, post-voting shots, and a scene from a Mario Kart 64 tournament.

If you'd like to be included in What We Did, tag your images with #WDDI on Instagram, and check back here next Monday. Search the hashtag #WDDI and check out all of the other photos that we were unable to include this week. Click the images below to be led back to the photographer's Instagram page where you can follow them and find that one weird photo of them dressed like a juggalo from four years ago.

TENDING BAR: ROY ROBERTSON

In Tending Bar, we like to take a moment and get to know those folks behind the counter at your favorite bar, coffee shop, juice bar, or other beverage-making establishment. Afterall, you probably see these friendly faces more often than you'd like to admit and there's a lot more to them than just the way that craft their drinks. Roy Robertson is a barista at Cultivar Coffee. One could easily make the argument that the little shop on Hickory St. inside of a doughnut store serves some of the best coffee in town (definitely top three). Robertson is also a musician (you probably know him best from the recently defunct Denton band Pageantry) and just an all around solid dude. We stopped by Cultivar last week to talk with Robertson and grab a few photos of him at work to document his process. Read on for more...
