Denton musician, Leoncarlo Canlas, creates dazzling soundscapes with nothing but his violin and a loop pedal. His pieces are surprisingly dynamic and always beautiful in a cinematic way. He’s been creating music under his first name since 2008 playing at venues from Hannah’s to Harvest House and is now in the process of releasing his first solo album, Still Forms.

Summertime is officially here, neighbors, which means a lot less student traffic but also an itch to maybe explore new entertainment options around Denton. Call me a cheapskate, but ain’t everything just a bit sweeter when it's not breaking the bank? As an update to our 2014 guide, here’s a glance at some of the weekly under $5 fun to be had in Denton. Over the weekend we said goodbye to Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios, a beloved venue and Denton institution for near two decades. They held a series of packed "Farewell" shows over the past week that saw Denton bands of yesteryear such as Record Hop and Lift to Experience reuniting to take the stage at Gloves one last time.

This week is packed with photos from Rubber Gloves' last week and other images from the past seven days.

It is officially Friday. The high school and college students have graduated which makes it that magical time in Denton when you can get in and out of Kroger in less than ten minutes. Whatever you're up to today, you probably need some Youtube time. Take a quick break, grab some caffeine, and watch the five videos we have for you below. This month's video post is music-focused and features the likes of Jessie Frye, Daniel Markham/Claire Morales, Stu Brootal, Pansy Moon, and some local folks dancing to JT's new song that has something to do with trolls somehow. Check them all out below. We recommend playing them all at the exact same time and finding out what that sounds like.

Denton’s springtime weather may be kooky and unpredictable, but one thing you can always count on are the offbeat sights and wacky underground events that keep our weekend social calendars full of choices that’d fluster even wise ole Solomon. One of these backyard traditions is the legendary QUEST FOR THE GOLDEN JESUS Chili Cookoff, which ain’t too underground anymore but for years was held at various “undisclosed locations."

The weekend is here, you're ready for a few tacos and a margarita, and at least one of your friends is currently ranting about the demise of the Denton music scene, the death of Rubber Gloves, and the illuminati's money taking over our town. Escape that argument with a one night trip to some random dude's sweaty living room, where you and all your friends can get ready to rock those work week realities away. The Syndicate is hosting a free show at The Purple Palace, located at 521 Malone St, Denton, Tx, 76201, and featuring music from Donella Drive, Dome Dwellers, Children of Indigo, Class Action and Biscuit Head. Get this line up a snuggie and some flu medicine because it is sick!

In anticipation of the best summer of your life, we are offering up a monthly mixtape. These are songs handpicked by WDDI's Glen Farris. He thinks these are the tunes that ooze what it is to live, breathe, eat, and play in Denton, TX. Read on to check 'em out.

So here is WDDIMT001. It is the first of many mix-tapes brought to you by our self-professed "musicologist in residence," Glen Farris. In the May edition of the WDDI mixtape (which is embedded below), we hear from the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Son Lux, Pollens, and more. It's great how seasons change in our small town urban experience.
