School has started but, friends, the heat of summer lingers on. September is a tricky month, and we spend the whole thirty days trying to decide if the air is cool enough to warrant all the outdoor time we’re desperately longing for. Let’s be bold and take our picnic baskets to the square (or Harvest House)! Towards the end of the month, we hope that cooler temperatures will ease their way back in and the city will erupt with autumnal glee. On a side note, we're switching Seen & Heard from a weekly format to a monthly one so you can now plan out your family-friendly activities a month in advance!

We're finishing up our Back to School Week content now that it is finally Friday. We've already talked about how you can get plugged in by volunteering, heard some advice from other Dentonites, and shared some of our favorite Denton secrets with y'all. We figured before we moved back to regular content, we would come up with a list of things that you should try to do during your time in Denton. We know that not everyone who comes here for school will move here. So during your time in Denton, make the most of it and take advantage of some of the more awesome things you can do. Below is a list of thirty things that we think everyone who lives in Denton (no matter how briefly) should at least check out or do. We know that everyone will have a list that is different than ours, but this is a great place to start. So here’s our obligatory “welcome back” tips for small adults that don’t live here: watch for one way streets, find the guy who knows where the house party is, find the square, be down for anything, mentor a student through mentordenton.org and get involved in the greatest community on the planet. It’ll fly by and you won’t even know what you were a part of until your sleeping on peoples couches in Brooklyn hoping you got that temp job.

UBER VS WANDERVAN
Last Friday we had ourselves a spur of the moment contest. We were headed to The Green Zatar for the first column in our upcoming Hole in the Wall series and we were discussing the best way to get there from the square when we decided to pit ride share/transportation services Uber and Wandervan against one another.
Uber is the "world's largest taxi company," and was valued at 18.2 billion by investors a few months ago. They opened up their oft-infamous ride sharing program in Denton earlier this year. Wandervan, the local, vintage-friendly upstart owned and operated by Jason Upshaw, showed up a few months later. The latter is a lot more obvious to spot riding around town. We downloaded both apps, headed out to the sidewalk on the downtown Denton Square and called up some cars. Below is some story from the night accompanied by tweets from our live-tweeting session. WDDI PRESENTS: THE CANNONBALL BOUT
The end of summer is nearing. The kids are brushing off their backpacks, the teachers are prepping their rooms, the new college freshmen are driving the wrong way down Oak Street, the marching bands can be heard practicing early and late and the days are starting to cool off a little. Okay, well all of that is happening - except for that last part - wishful thinking. Thankfully we have a solution for that.
