The end of summer is upon us, y'all. The kids are brushing off their Jansports (are Jansports still cool?), the water park is drying up, and the new college freshmen are driving the wrong way down Oak Street, and the marching bands can be heard practicing early and late and the days are starting to cool off a little. Too bad that last part is just wishful thinking. Wouldn't it be better if we could just extend summer a little longer? Thankfully, we've got a solution for y'all.
The Civic Center pool is about to get a facelift of sorts, and with that facelift comes the removal of the diving boards. So, as a last hurrah for the summer - and because we can't imagine a summer without a good belly flop, swan dive or cannonball - we're hosting an after hours, end of summer, last bounce on those diving boards bash. There will be local "celebrities" cannonballing in competition, hoping for your applause and cheers, and fun to be had by all as we wrap up the summer and head feet first into fall.
Come out and join us Friday, September 4th at 6:30pm as we bounce good bye to the diving boards, and usher in a new park to make more memories on by entering our cannonball contest, as each entry is a chance to donate to the Denton Parks Foundation and the new Eureka 2 Playground. Amongst our local celebrities bouncing for glory will Jupiter House owner and city councilman Joey Hawkins, Denton ISD Superintendent Jamie Wilson, Kevin Roden, Greg Johnson, Gary Henderson, Hank Dickenson and more. So come out, swim to your hearts content, cheer on our contenders as they show us their best cannonball form, or show them up with your own awesome cannonball! Entrance to the pool is a suggested $5 donation and we just kindly ask that you make an additional donation to show off your sweet cannonball skillz. All proceeds go to the Denton Parks Foundation.
So get that perfect cannonball ready, y'all. You've got a little over two weeks. Here's a video you can study in the meantime (and help to think about cold weather).
