It is Back to School Week again at We Denton Do It! We want to make sure that all of the students and community members that are new to our city know how to get involved. After all, there's a lot of stuff in town they can either participate in, see, or do. So - if you're a newby - make the most of your time here and take advantage of some of the more awesome things you can do. Below is a list of around thirty things that we think everyone who lives in Denton (no matter how briefly) should at least check out. We know that everyone will have a list that is different than ours, but this is a great place to start. If you have some other "Bucket List" items that you think new Dentonites should do, share them with us in the comments!
Get reservations at Keiichi, sit at the sushi bar and order the omakase. Save up and call a few weeks in advance first! Don't like sushi? Get some Italian food. Yes, we're serious.
Find a favorite locally owned restaurant and then complain when it closes down. We're still bummed about Taipei Railroad.
Order the cocktail with all the smoke at Paschall Bar. It tastes like inebriated camping.
Go to the tree lighting and watch the dancing grandmas.
Go to TWU. Go up to the top floor of Guinn Hall and check out the the Little Chapel in the Woods.
Have a picnic on the courthouse lawn.
Host a house show or go to a house show that gets shut down.
Almost get hit by a car at Murder Kroger (the new stop sign doesn't help much).
Get haunted at Goatman's Bridge.
Drive the wrong way down a one-way street. (Just kidding. Please don't do that.)
Change clothes in one of the awesome dressing rooms at Rose Costumes.
Get yelled at by the sound guy at Dan's Silverleaf.
Go inside the Courthouse on the Square.
Go to a City Council meeting.
Be in a band for at least a week - Even if you don't play an instrument (especially if you don't play an instrument).
Go to the Greenbelt and Lake Ray Roberts. For that matter, pick a random road and drive down it for half an hour to see where it takes you. There's a lot of interesting things just on the outskirts of town. If you get hungry while you're out there, we've got a list of great restaurants to check out.
Tailgate at a UNT football game and eat a free hot dog.
Find the books for tall people at Recycled Books. Pray the floor doesn't cave in. Also, just learn about the awesomeness that is Recycled Books.
Hashtag a photo with #WDDI on Instagram and have us share it in our Monday photo round-up post, What We Did.
Become "Frenchy Famous."
Write on a table at East Side (sorry, John).
Go to a jazz night somewhere.
Find the purple door and take a photo in front of it.
Get your mug featured on PeopleofDenton.com.
Cook with some fresh eggs that you got from the Denton Community Market.
Participate in the Social Run on Wednesdays at OSDH.
Pick your favorite non-Starbucks coffee shop and get a barista to know you by name.
Volunteer with an organization!
Ask about the ice creams they keep behind the counter at Beth Marie's.
Buy something handmade in Denton at The Dime Store.
Take the train to Dallas and back.
Check out the East McKinney Taco Corridor. La Estrella is a great place to start.
Go to a local festival like The North Texas State Fair, The Blues Festival, Thin Line, Arts and Autos, Jazz Fest, Day of the Dead, or many many more.
How's your list coming along? We bet a few of you have all of this completed and much more. Think we missed a few things? Let us know in the comments!
