THE DEN10: SEPTEMBER 4

Is everyone ready to drink from the firehose? Because that's what's about to happen. With school back in, the town's population seemingly doubled overnight - along with the amount of events that are totally worth your time to attend. This week, it wasn't hard to find ten. So now may be a good time to make the public service announcement that if you've got a hot tip for a show, shoot us an email. While we're at it, make sure and remember to #WDDI your Instagram and Facebook pics if you want to be included in our weekly Monday morning What We Did post.

He's a true force of nature and the package deal as far as musician/human goes. If you don't catch this performance, be sure to check out any of the other dozen projects he's involved in because they are all pretty top notch. Get on some free week action.

First Friday Gallery Opening w/ Spiderweb Salon | Jupiter House | 7PM | FREE
Been wondering why the artwork up at Jupiter House has been better lately? Well, it's because the busy folks at Spiderweb Salon have been curating the hangings. Stick around and meet folks in the midst of art, music and artsy folk drinking coffee. While you're out - make sure to check out SCRAP and The DIME Store for more First Friday events.

Keep Denton Beautiful Fundraiser | Oak St. Draft House | 12PM - 2AM
Ten percent of sales go to the non-profit Keep Denton Beautiful. You have the hardworking folks here to thank for the dumpsters on Fry St. that magically turned into a planted tree and a ring of bike racks. This was no easy feat, so stop by, pat them on the back and thank them for doing what the can to Keep Denton Beautiful.

DTCTV / Danny Rush & The Designated Drivers / Tony Ferraro | Dan's Silverleaf | 10PM | $13
DCTV features James Greer (ex-Guided By Voices, Roi, Complete Portion Control, etc.).

THE DEN10: JULY 24

Last night, Denton saw it's first Spelling Bee for adults-only at Dan's Silverleaf. Born from the mind of Scott Porter, the inaugural Buzz Bee was the sort of quirky, no expectations idea that makes our town tick. It was thrown together last second with the sort of wheels off, can-do attitude that we've come to expect from our community. While the endgame needed work, there was no short of all the thrills and agony associated with a unprofessionally run Spelling Bee. Remembering the hilarity that ensued on stage - we charge ahead into another week of Denton-centric local fun. We're never really sure what to expect - but we know that its bound to be memorable at the very least.

No jerks. They really mean it this time.

WEEK IN REVIEW: MARCH 25

There's something about a late chill that makes me want to bundle up and get out there to check out what our tiny hamlet in North Texas has to offer. This week we've got a handful of picks to satisfy  that urge.

Monday March 25
The Art History Society Gallery Talks w/ Tiffany Floyd & Cheryl Palyu | Art Room 100 | 1PM

Tuesday March 26
Sacco & Vanzetti /The Saturday Giant (Columbus, OH / Dome Dwellers / Blessin' | J&J's Pizza | 9PM | FREE
Art-indie-jazz-rock darlings Sacco & Vanzetti will once again prove that their band practices more than yours this Tuesday. Might as well get that extra order of bread-sticks with ranch.

Caravan Of Thieves | Dan's Silverleaf | 8pm | $7

Paul Slavens & Friends | Dan's Silverleaf | 10pm | FREE
It's good to see Denton's elder statesman of improv-songwriting back at Dan's. If you haven't seen it, are you really a dentonite? When it's working it can whip the room into a frenzy and when not, it can make you consider why you even get out of bed in the mornings. Always surrounding himself with the towns top musicians, Slavens offering, for better or worse is always a spectacle.

Wednesday March 27
Dentonradio.com Night | Dan's Silverleaf | 8pm | FREE
Featuring Mockingbyrd Station, Levi Cobb and the Big Smoke and Eilee Morris.

The Denton Spoken Word Collective | Rubbergloves | 9pm | FREE
Oh my dear spoken word. How curiously redundant and ambiguous art thou. She was a thief, you gotta belief. She stole my heart and my cat. Might be worth checking out if not only for the probably entertaining side commentary from newly enthroned, full-time talent buyer / bartender, Scott Porter.

WEEKEND PREVIEW: MARCH 7TH - MARCH 10TH

Yes, there are plenty of shows to go to this week. You could throw a rock and there'd most likely be an anti-folk show going on where-ever it landed. We've combed through hundreds of events and hand-picked what we decided were the two or three best-looking shows to attend this weekend. Disagree? Let us know in the comments.

Thursday, March 7

Buxton / Ralph White / Spooky Folk / Isaac Hoskins - Dan's Silverleaf | 9:30pm | 35 Denton wristband
Ralph White is a modern nod to the old, weird America of Harry Smith, and his live offerings can be pretty transcendent. Buxton being a rare, fully-capable band from Houston, anchors this show that's rounded out with hometown-heros Spooky Folk and one of our most underrated and nicest guys to boot, Isaac Hoskins.

Pallbearer / Power Trip / Pinkish Black / Terminator 2 - Hailey's | 9pm | wristband
Doom, glorious doom.

Friday, March 8

Beer and Tacos with The Pink Antler | Oak Street Draft House | 5pm | $5 with wristband; $10 without wristband
Since We Denton Do It is taco-centric, we are sponsoring this fun little event at the always fun OSDH. Oh, and we love beer also so it's kind of a perfect match. This was all put together by our lovely and talented Alyssa Jarrell, who is also the food writer at Little D and the person behind The Pink Antler recipe and home blog.

The DIME Store Pre-Party and Pop-Up Show - The Dime Store | 6pm | free
Hang out with local artists and celebrate the opening of this easy born creation.

Baptist Generals Listening Party - Dan's Silverleaf | 2pm | wristband
Flemmons described this to me the other night as, "not a garage record."

Saturday, March 9

Denton: A City, a College, and a Creative Class - a 35 Denton Day Panel - Oak Street Draft House | 5pm | wristband
Moderated by city council member Kevin Roden, this promises to be a brainy and inspired discussion geared towards the type of folks who are interested in all things Denton.

The Earthwise 2nd Annual Local Food Festival | The Hive | 10am | Free
What better way to nurse your 35D hangover on Saturday morning than sampling artisan cheeses, honey, olive oil, and fresh produce that all come from nearby. Please tell me there will also be breakfast tacos and coffee and we're golden, y'all.

March Radness Alley Cat - UNT Language Building | 12pm | $5 to buy into the race
If you want to enter this bike race sponsored by the likes of Bullseye Bike Shop, Sprockets, Oak St. Drafthouse, and Pan Ector Industries, check into their Facebook page.

Sunday, March 10

Marnie Stern / The Coathangers / Daniel Francis Doyle / Eat Avery's Bones - Dan's Silverleaf | 9:30pm | wristband
How hip are you? If you don't get into Dan's Sunday night, you've got your answer. Shame on you in advance.

The Last Bison | Doug Burr | Somebody's Darling |  The Treelines - Sweetwater Grill & Tavern | 9:30pm | wristband
Denton songwriting hero, Doug Burr emerges after having spent 2012 feverishly writing new material for his next record due later on in 2013. Although, this will be a set of new takes on old material (they've since added Dave Sims to the "duo" lineup), this promises to not disappoint.
