THE DEN10: MAY 9TH 2018

SHAUN TREAT

The summer heat is debuting early as the end of the semester rushes on us, but Teacher Appreciation Week and upcoming Mother’s Day reminds us to be thankful! Don’t forget this is also Graduation Weekend for both UNT and TWU, so you can bank on the streets and eateries being plenty busy. We help navigate your bountiful #DENTONING options this week and weekend with these top #DEN10 events.

THURSDAY, May 10th

Twilight Tunes | Denton County Courthouse On The Square | 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
The Denton Main Street Association proudly presents their award-winning FREE concert series in downtown Denton on Thursdays, this week featuring the UNT Steel Drum Band! Admission for every event is always FREE, so there is no reason you shouldn’t come out every week with your lawn chair or picnic blanket! Thursdays are also always hoppin’ downtown with Glitterbomb at Andy’s, a bicycle social ride at Eastside, live jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, trivia at Mulberry St. Cantina, and gnoshes at Wine2, so plenty of good choices around the Square.

FRIDAY, May 11th

Star Wars: The Last Jedi | Patterson-Appleton Arts Center | 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM
If you sense a disturbance in the Force, its probably because last week’s May The Fourth coincided with a licensing blackout, but lite your lightsaber for this movie night. Soft drinks, popcorn and candy will be available for sale, and they’re raffling off a Force X lightsaber ($138 value) as well as other Star Wars items. Cosplay is welcomed and indeed encouraged!

MEMPHIS | Campus Theater | 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
From the underground dance clubs of 1950’s Memphis, Tennessee, comes the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love. Inspired by actual events, Memphis is about a white radio DJ who wants to change the world and a black club singer who is ready for her big break. Come along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves – filled with laughter, soaring emotion and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll. Winner of four 2010 Tony Awards including Best Musical and two 2015 Olivier Awards, Memphis features a Tony-winning book by Joe DiPietro and a Tony-winning original score with music by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan.
