THE DEN10: JANUARY 31ST 2018

SHAUN TREAT

February has snuck up on us as 2018 hits its stride, which means lots of happenings and #Dentoning a’plenty around town. You can check out our picks for the best Denton-area events in our weekly Den10 post. This week's list is below!

THURSDAY, February 1st

First Thursday Gypsy Jazz | Barley and Board | 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Le Not-So-Hot Klub d'Denton ushers in their 14th year on the Denton Square playing the music of Django Reinhardt. Thursdays are also always poppin’ with Glitterbomb at Andy’s, a bicycle ride at Eastside, or jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, too.

An Evening of Raised Awareness | GDAC | 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
February is Black History Month, and the Denton County Friends of the Family along with the Greater Denton Arts Council are featuring an evening with Dr. Yamma Brown, author of the book Cold Sweat: My Father James Brown and Me.  A VIP reception is followed by her talk and a book signing.  GDAC is also hosting a musical evening with John Paul White of the Grammy-winning duo The Civil Wars at Campus Theater.

FRIDAY, February 2nd

First Friday | Downtown Denton | 6:00 PM – 10 PM
Experience Denton’s art scene in many forms on First Friday, when participating businesses and galleries sponsor activities throughout the evening! Check out the exhibits at Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, A Creative Art Studio, Circa 77, The (Ghost) Note, and the DIME Store! It also coincides with TWU’s 2018 Visual Arts Exhibition.

Alfredo Rolando Ortiz Interactive Lecture | UNT College of Music | 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM
UNT’s renowned Guest Artist, an internationally acclaimed Paraguayan harpist, is serving up this provocatively titled session on “Latin American Rhythms and Avoiding Performance Injuries” in the COM Bldg room 232. Sounds like you better stretch before you go.

God of Carnage | Black Box Theatre | 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM
Running through February 4, the 2009 Tony Award-winning play about an evening spent by two pairs of parents discussing a fight that occurred between their sons... an exchange that quickly escalates itself.  Get your tickets through the DCT website or box office.
