Tim Stoltzfus and his crew at More Fun Comics and Games are at it again. The Denton comic book shop on the square has put out two unique-to-Denton comic book covers in the past 14 months that blend iconic comic stars with Denton. This year, they've flown the Dark Knight in to Denton, TX all the way from Gotham. He'll be swinging by the courthouse in limited edition comic book form on June 15th.
The comic is an variant cover for the upcoming Batman #1 which is part of the DC Rebirth series. The series kicked off earlier this week with the one-shot DC Rebirth #1 that launched the upcoming story line for much of the DC line. The limited-edition Denton cover features the caped crusader brooding over the courthouse on a stormy night. It was drawn by artist Scott Williams who went for more of a 70's era gray and blue Batman style which really set off our sense of nostalgia.
Many hands went in to the mix to bring this cover to light. Among them, Kate Lynass, Denton's Director of Administration, worked hard to help Stoltzfus get some of the important paperwork documentation that was necessary. DC Comics required official permission from Denton County officials before creating the cover. This came in the form of a letter from Denton County Judge Mary Horn that encouraged the famous company behind the likes of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and many others to use the courthouse on the cover.
Last year, More Fun put out both Spider-Man and Doctor Who Denton covers. The latter even saw Denton Mayor Chris Watts proclaiming April 3rd to be "Doctor Who Day." Both events had their fair share of fan fare and Stoltzfus promises the Batman cover to feature the same.
Batman #1 will be released on Wednesday, June 15th and will be sold exclusively through More Fun Comics and Games on the Denton Square. The Denton exclusive will retail for $14.99. Stoltzfus is currently hard at work planning events to help celebrate the launch. We recommend gassing up the 'ol Batmobile and getting your utility belts ready in advance.
