Just your friendly, neighborhood bloggers here to bring some good news! Spider-Man is coming to Denton - in comic book form! Tim Stoltzfus and his crew at More Fun Comics and Games, are following their successful Doctor Who cover from earlier this year with a Denton one-off cover of The Amazing Spider-Man #1 in Denton, TX that will be out on October 7th of this year.
We were excited to find out that Peter Parker would be appearing in Denton before he made his appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We knew something was up when we got an email from Stoltzfus last week - our bloggy sense was tingling pretty hard (Editor's Note: That sounds disgusting.) and we weren't disappointed in the slightest.
The Doctor Who cover was such a big deal that the City of Denton ended up putting out a Mayoral Proclamation that April 4th was Doctor Who Day. With that type of attention, how could More Fun not follow it up? “I immediately started reaching out to publishers for ideas on upcoming books and characters that would be as iconic as the Courthouse itself," Stotzfus said, "Fortunately, Marvel had a new Spider-Man book in the works, and Spider-Man is arguably Marvel's most iconic character of all. It was a perfect fit!”
Spider-Man has been around since 1962, but spends most of his fictional time in New York. We think he'll dig Denton, though. The artist for this Denton cover is longtime Marvel artist Leinil Francis Yu.
The Amazing Spider-Man #1 will be released on Wednesday, October 7th and be sold exclusively through More Fun Comics and Games on the Denton Square. Stoltzfus is currently hard at work planning events to help celebrate the launch. We recommend getting your web slingers and the old red and blue ready now, though.
