It's the last day of 2014 and we're still feeling nostalgic (we haven't even touched the booze yet, either). Below, we have ten end of the year awards to some people, businesses, and other things for stuff that happened in 2014.
BEST BEAN SOUP FROM A FAILED MEXICAN RESTAURANT:
The free bean soup at Cafe Herrera. It was the only complimentary thing we could say about Cafe Herrera (because it was free - get it?).
BEST ITALIAN SAUSAGE SANDWICH FROM A PIZZA JOINT:
The Italian sausage sandwich from J and J's.
WORST SWEAR WORD-INDUCING STREET CONSTRUCTION:
Tie between W. Hickory St. and the construction on University Dr.
MOST IMPROVED:
Shift Coffee's new space is way awesome and we're so happy they're back.
BEST DENTON-THEMED HALLOWEEN COSTUME:
This lady's Howdy Doody costume. -->
BEST ADDITION TO THE DENTON FOOD SCENE:
Tie between Bet the House and the Austin St. Truck Stop.
BEST SUBTRACTION FROM THE DENTON FOOD SCENE:
Goldmine BBQ. We wanted to like you, but you kept not having salad dressing and kept telling us you did. Also, other stuff.
Most Valuable Player:
Julie Glover for her knowledge of and commitment to the City of Denton.
MOST IMPROVED:
The restroom in the basement of Andy's.
BEST FAILED ELECTION CAMPAIGN:
Glen Farris's campaign for city council district 2. We had a lot of fun, though.
MOST HIGHLY-ELEVATED LOUD NOISES:
TIE: LSA's mostly-country tunes from atop their roof as they spill over onto the square and that one drunk guy yelling from atop the Wells Fargo building that one time.
