JULIAN LYNCH INTERVIEW

Last Tuesday, We Denton Do It hosted a show at J & J’s Pizza, where we got to catch up with Julian Lynch.  It came at an interesting time for both of us--Julian had been given Pitchfork’s coveted “Best New Music” rating a day earlier, and this was our site’s first “non-house show”.

Julian is one of those people who is impossible not to like.  He approaches his live performance differently than his recorded album. He grabs wind instruments, some effects pedals and jams out a set. Watch the interview for his take on music, education and performance.

Soft Healer Interview and Performance

We had the chance to sit down with Soft Healer on the eve of our first non-house show. Hailing from Austin, TX, you should probably keep one wayfarer'd eye on this band.

In our interview, they talk about 'the velvet rut' that Austin can become, how man keeps better time than machine, and stereotypes associated with the 'live music capital of the world'. Although they hit on the fact that so many Chaco-clad, earth army folks choose to stay in Austin and 'just rut', a new group of musicians is on their way, wah pedals in tow. Music doesn't pay the bills, but it sure as hell is fun.

Chairlift + John Maus

On September 12, 2009 Chairlift was touring with John Maus. We had a chance to interview Aaron Pfenning from Chairlift and John Maus as well. The interview was filmed last minute on a rainy night outside of Haileys. Our damaged tape nearly ruined the interview but we were manage to salvage what we had.

In this video we're taking a look at two artists on tour together.  Aaron, one of the major elements of Chairlift and lives in Brooklyn, and John Maus, who plays keys in Chairlift and performs as a solo act and on the side teaches philosophy at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa.  We were lucky enough to catch an interview with these two as they toured through Denton on Sept. 12th, 2009.  Enjoy.
