Whether you're there every Friday night or haven't been in years, Cool Beans holds a special place in many of our hearts.

This weekend, Denton once again welcomes the Denton Black Film Festival, a 2-day series dedicated to showcasing award-winning, independent films. These films are set to entertain, educate, inspire, and communicate Black cultural themes to the broader community. All the while hoping to reflect a specific cultural mindset and changes through several generations of film-making.
DBFF will present their chosen collection of films inside Denton’s historic Campus Theatre. This year, they have expanded the festival to include music, art, poetry, and more. With musical acts like The Boombachs, they're going at it full force. We recently spoke with Daniel Amotsuka, UNT alumni and head of Marketing and Digital Media for the festival, and asked him a few questions. Read on for more!

The Perot and the DMA are must-see museums, but you probably won’t find an international art exhibit entitled “That’s What She Said?” at either space. Luckily, to see shows that mix quirk with conscience, all you have to do is stroll down to the Square. You’ll even be able to grab a latte once you get there.
Jupiter House Coffee pulls double duty. It’s half café, half art gallery. Manger/curator Cameron Cox brings together local and global painters, photographers and other artistes to create a space that epitomizes inclusivity and ingenuity. As Cox says, “anything goes,” and the space has quietly become a hot commodity in the city’s ever-growing art community
“Most people approach me, because they’ve been here and seen the work, or heard about it through other people,” Cox says. She is eager to point out that Jupiter House is a hot spot for myriad Dentonites; everyone from politicians to college students, young professionals, teens, train hoppers and the homeless” have come through the front doors for a signature coffee brew and a look at the rotating shows adorning the brick walls. And since Cox came aboard a year and a half ago, those shows have been as diverse as the customers.

After almost a year of touring the country, Pageantry’s show this weekend felt like a welcome home performance. Halfway into the set, lead singer and guitarist Roy Robertson mentioned his first time coming to Denton six years ago, where he also played alongside Bosque Brown, Pageantry's openers for the evening. "It's great to play in our hometown," he said. And the crowd's support confirmed that the band wasn't just appreciated, but sorely missed.
