CONCERNS ABOUT "SQUARE CONCERN"

Last week, the Denton Record Chronicle published an editorial that enumerated on a few issues some claim are plaguing the Denton downtown square. Among the issues are parking, noise, the types of businesses that are attracted to the square and an overall lack of family-friendly atmosphere. You can read the whole thing here. Dentonite Dave Sims (and many others) took umbrage to the piece. This mindset hasn't just been seen in that one location, however. A few City Council candidates in the election that ended on this past Saturday ran on issues related to downtown Denton being a dangerous place in need of more police presneece. Below, you can find Sims thoughts on why the DRC article is out of touch with the current state and direction of downtown Denton. Read through it and let us know your thoughts in the comments!

WHAT WE DID: MAY 11TH 2015

What We Did is our weekly roundup of photos that WDDI staff and readers have taken over the past seven days. It's our excuse to talk about the weather, local sports teams, and the like. you can bet your ass that we're going to talk about the weather this week. We did have a flipping tornado, after all. And we aren't the only ones talking about the weather this (strangely) sunny morning. In fact, a good percentage of your tagged photos were weather-related because Denton is full of amateur storm chasers. So we hope you like dramatic skies and whatnot.

If you'd like to be included in What We Did, tag your images with #WDDI on Instagram, and check back here next Monday. As always, we're limited in the photos we can post, but we encourage you to search the hashtag #WDDI and check out all of the other awesome photos that were posted that we were unable to post on the blog. Click the images below to be led back to the photographer's Instagram page. Have a great week!

GRAMMIN' IN DENTON

With our weekly What We Did column, we get to see hundreds of photos of life in Denton every single week. With that in mind, our Instagram following feeds are kinda rockin'. If you follow along with our #WDDI, yours probably are, too. If not, we've gone ahead and made a list of what we think are some of the best Instagram feeds in Denton. We had a few rules in mind when we made this list, though. First off, we wanted to keep it personal - i.e. no businesses or self-promotion. Just people documenting awesomeness. Second, we wanted feeds that often featured Denton. Either local events, bands, places, or whatever so long as it featured or showed off the place we call home in some way, even if as a backdrop. Finally, we wanted feeds that posted only their own work - not accounts that just shared the best images from other accounts. But aside from those three rules, we were open to whatever! Below are eight of our favorite instagram feeds in Denton. Check 'em out and let us know what Instagram accounts you like in the comments.

WHAT WE DID: MAY 4TH 2015

Here's What We Did, our weekly photo recap of the past couple of days. Looks as if we spent a lot of time hanging out on or around the square. With Twilight Tunes kicking off our weekend early, we can't help but get those good summer vibes out and about. Follow that up with a Movie Night on the courthouse lawn, a Cinco de Mayo Parade, the Mudbug Boil, Free Comic Book Day, and a show from one of the best bands to ever come out of Denton, TX and you've got a pretty damned full week.

Click on the images below to get linked to the appropriate photographer's Instagram account where you can then follow them and get a new Instagram buddy! To be included in next week's What We Did, make sure to tag your Instagram photos with #WDDI and we will put our favorites in next week's post.
