After almost a year of touring the country, Pageantry’s show this weekend felt like a welcome home performance. Halfway into the set, lead singer and guitarist Roy Robertson mentioned his first time coming to Denton six years ago, where he also played alongside Bosque Brown, Pageantry's openers for the evening. "It's great to play in our hometown," he said. And the crowd's support confirmed that the band wasn't just appreciated, but sorely missed.

3 Songs is a monthly music column where we highlight a few tunes from local bands we're digging at the moment . We don't know about y'all, but with winter dragging on and the cold keeping us from making it out to local shows, we find ourselves longing for sunny days, warm weather, and those sweaty, sweaty house shows. So this month, we're shining the light on a few of our favorite local singer-songwriters: Megan Storie, Brack Cantrell, and Claire Morales.

The illustrious house venue has had a long history of throwing shows even before its current tenant, Blake Boyd started hosting in February of 2015. “I've heard stories and seen footage of bands playing here years ago, which is why I'm confident it'll continue on - It's always been around," Boyd said. he's moving on, but looks forward to hosting more shows in a new location around town.

We're late with posting this today because we were stuck in this Bog of Eternal Stench that Bowie's passing has left us in. Also, Nick keeps asking me to design him a shirt. For a bit more closure on the former (I'll deal with the latter), check out this KERA piece featuring some North Texans talking about how the Thin White Duke affected their lives.
Below are 19 photos from the past seven days of life in Denton, TX. We present a group of our favorite recent images every Monday and call it What We Did.

Centro-matic frontman, Will Johnson played (mostly) solo to about 100 or so patrons at Dan’s Silverleaf last night. Regardless if he was singing a song from one of his many solo albums, or covering a Centro-matic or South San Gabriel tune, hearing the gritty noises coming through Johnson’s pursed lips are always satisfying. Click through to read more about Johnson's show at Dan's on January 7th.

We went through the entire year of 2015 posts on We Denton Do It and pulled a few of our favorite images from the past year. Looking back, one thing we can't ignore is the fact that we have a bunch of talented photographers in Denton capturing awesome moments on their phones, DSLRs, and film cameras. Also, we eat and drink too much probably.
If you ask us, a long post full of big pretty photos is probably our favorite type of post. We figured you'd dig it too. Click on most of the photos below to be led back to that photographer's Instagram account, or click on the links to reread some of our favorite pieces from the past year.
