Well, that sure was spooky. Denton, you go all out with costumes. We saw ghosts, ghouls, goblins, Trumps, pumpkins, pumpkin-Trumps, and about a half dozen or so Leslie Knopes out on the streets this weekend. Also, let's take a quick aside to talk about how hard Sundown Blvd. at Ranchman gets down on Halloween. We heard tell of this block of houses that go all out and decided to trek over to South Denton to see what all of the fuss was about and we were not disappointed. Streets covered in fog, men with chainsaws chasing teenagers, and houses decorated to the nines were just a few of the things that make that area a trick-or-treaters paradise. We will definitely hit it up next year. Y'all know of any Denton neighborhoods that have them beat in terms of All Hallow's Eve?
What We Did is our weekly roundup of photos that WDDI staff and readers have taken over the past seven days. We've got 22 of our favorite images from the past week in Denton, TX below. Most of 'em are Halloween-specific (how could they not be?), but you'll find a few non-spooky ones there, too.
If you'd like to be included in What We Did, tag your images with #WDDI on Instagram, and check back here next Monday. As always, we're limited in the photos we can post, but we encourage you to search the hashtag #WDDI and check out all of the other awesome photos that we were unable to include this week. It’s Halloween season again in Denton, with Day Of The Dead and coffin races and all manner of spooky fun to choose from! This also means its time to share another one of Denton’s nifty ghost stories!! We’ve previously scooped y’all on The 1963 Pecan Creek Monster Hunt, some of Denton’s Ghostly Guardians, and our most famous specter that is said to haunt The Old Alton Goatman’s Bridge… but I’ll bet you haven’t heard about The Phantom Farmer said to still be mulling around the Bayless-Selby House Museum in our Denton County Historic Park! This story has it all: betrayal, murder, scandal, and more’n just a little lingering haunted intrigue since back in the day.

The last picture in today's What We Did is a fun little lego set on top of a box of Hypnotic Donuts. That got us kinda wanting to see some more Denton scenes in Lego form. We'd love to see your Denton-themed Lego creations. So if you get some free time this week (do people still get that?), borrow your child's blocks (or steal some from a friend's child - not really, though) and bet to building. Share 'em with us on Instagram so we can see your creations!

Denton has a lot of things to be proud of, but college football isn't always one of them. That parade was fun, though, right? Oh well. We still had a good weekend and it looks as if y'all did, too judging by your images.

Mark your calendars, call a babysitter, and put it in your BlackBerry (if you’re living in the year 2007) because Dan’s SilverLeaf is the place to be on Sunday, October 11th. In a move befitting the month of October, beloved Denton band Spooky Folk will headline a concert that includes Fort Worth’s Whiskey Folk Ramblers and Oak Cliff’s Siamese.

If you’ve been on the University of North Texas’ campus lately, you might have seen signs with a caricature of UNT’s Librarian Doug Campbell around the Library Mall. It simply reads “Ask Doug!" which is the perfect segue into this month's People of Denton post. So we did it. We asked Doug all the questions, and what he had to say was insightful and of course, oh-so Denton.

Oaktopia took over downtown Denton for its junior year of programming, offering interactive art installations, a mini-skate park set up, outdoor movies, and oh yeah - live music. Once known for being a predominantly hip-hop driven festival, this year they took a heavy indie turn at Isreal Nash and went full speed toward Edward Sharpe and his Magnetic Zeros. We aren’t complaining, though. We like Sarah Jaffe, too.

And here's our second What We Did post of the day. This one is complete with tons of images from this weekend's Oaktopia festival. This was the third year of Oaktopia and we're crossing our fingers to hear about a fourth one soon. Anyway, we had a blast hitting up venues on the square and down Hickory St. and loved seeing both the local and national acts.
Below are tons of photos from both WDDI photogs and you, the WDDI readers and Instagram taggers. Check them out below and let us know your favorite act in the comments!

Who else is sore and droopy-eyed this Monday morning? We sure as heck are, but it was well worth it. Oaktopia put on quite the show this weekend and between Oaktopia, the food truck festival, dog days of Denton, and all of the normal Denton festivities, there was a lot of stuff going on and y'all seemed to take photos of all of it. We had almost 1,000 images tagged with #WDDI over the past week that we combed through for today's post. Whenever we have that many photos from a certain event, we like to break What We Did into two posts. So here's your first WWD of the day, featuring everyday awesomeness and remember to check back later today for an Oaktopia-focused edition.
