We're almost up to 20,000 (all time) tags of #WDDI since we started this weekly column a few years ago. Believe it or not, but every week there's a bunch of awesome photos that (due to space limitations), we don't get to feature. We highly encourage you to click the #WDDI link on the bottom of our homepage to check out all of the tagged photos on Twitter (we get all of ours through Instagram).
What We Did is our weekly roundup of photos that WDDI staff and readers have taken over the past seven days. We've got seventeen of our favorite images from the past week in Denton, TX below. Within the bunch are images of planes, food, and lots of summer goodtimes.
If you'd like to be included in What We Did, tag your images with #WDDI on Instagram, and check back here next Monday. As always, we're limited in the photos we can post, but we encourage you to search the hashtag #WDDI and check out all of the other awesome photos that were posted that we were unable to post on the blog. Click the images below to be led back to the photographer's Instagram page. Have a great week!

2015 is the 150th sesquicentennial anniversary of the end of The Great War Between the States, the American Civil War, which formally ended with General Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Courthouse on 9 April of 1865 and the capture of CSA President Jefferson Davis in May. But exactly when the war concluded, or maybe even if it ever really has, is a bit tougher to pin down. Yet the punctuation mark for Texas is decidedly June 19th of 1865, when a Union armada brought emancipation-by-gunpoint to Galveston TX under the command of General Gordon Granger. Celebrated in most states today as Juneteenth, just two weeks before the 4th of July celebrations of America’s independence from British rule, it is a holiday marking the symbolic end of the “peculiar institution” of American slavery… but it is also the beginning of a long struggle to fully realize America’s Constitutional promise of full equality under the law. Luckily, a Juneteenth history tour will recall the stories of Denton’s African-American communities from back in the day.

Every couple of months, we like to take a look at the world of Denton business to find out what's closing, what's opening, and to make pleas for someone to start a good fried chicken place in town. This month, we've got new liquor stores, new chefs, new Thai food, cheap trendy clothing and much more.

Summer's already here, y'all. You can tell because your car is that type of hot where you raise your butt off the seat so you don't melt into it. Also, if you've spawned, your wee ones are currently at home and probably going through your stuff or causing mischief. Don't worry, though. We've got plenty of family-friendly events throughout the week in today's Seen & Heard. A few of 'em involve cooling yourself off by way of air conditioning or water, too. So hop to it!

SCRAP Denton is full of reuse pushers. After you've hung out in their new digs on Bell for a while, made a few crafty friends, and taken a couple of classes you kinda get hooked on creative reuse. It can be addictive. With their new location, SCRAP is bigger and better than ever before, and with their upcoming fundraisers, summer camps and more, things only look to be getting better. We recently spoke with lead SCRAPer (our term, not hers), Heather Gregory, to get the low-down on all of the upcoming events happening at SCRAP. Oh, and she gives us insight on who is the craftiest person in Denton, teases an upcoming Mini Maker Faire to be held in Denton this fall, and a whole bunch more because she's busy like that. Read all about it in the interview below.

Friday's can sometimes be the doldrums at work. If you work in an office, you're probably sneaking in some Reddit or Youtube time (or your personal favorite time waster) in between spreadsheets and .psd's. Heck, maybe you work retail and have to do all of that on your mobile device. Maybe you're actually getting work done (bless you, hard worker). We're gonna focus on the lazy ones, though. Here are three local videos for your watching pleasure. A video from The Vision Beautiful with a stark rendition of Patsy Cline's "Strange," by Claire Morales and Jena Pyle, an awesome new video from Kaela Sinclair, and Denton Stage's newest video featuring Konklin playing at Denton Skate Works complete with kids on scooters and some sweet sunshine.

It’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture in an increasingly polarized world. Yet, when you meet a man like Clint Wilson (a priest by trade and an optimist by choice) - refreshing doesn’t even begin to cut it. Religious or not, cynicism is a pervasive american pastime, so when we sat down in the Lord’s house with Father Clint, we were enlightened to say the least. We won’t hold it as sin against him for gracing our lone star state only two years ago, because he got here as fast as he could. We philosophize and sort through his thoughts on what makes a community work in the interview below. Wilson clears up some common misconceptions that folks might have about priestly duties, and fills us in on his thoughts about alcohol, community organizations, and hypothetical biblical boxing champs.
