Dentonites seem to be having a tough time handling the long wait to post Thanksgiving this year. Many, including us, have given in and started decorating for Christmas already. Do you have your tree and/or lights up already?

It was definitely cold enough this past week to let us know that winter was coming. Wes McFall and his pregnant crew spent their weekend fireplace hopping and trying to stay warm.

It wasn't cold enough to keep Dentonites from doing their thing, though. The Denton comedy scene gets more interesting to us every weekend. Here's a peek from a backyard standup session from Sarah Adams.
Seryn had a secret warehouse show to get some footage for an upcoming documentary. We were there to check it out.

Dentonites seemed to take the past week to further explore what Lone Star Attitude (LSA) had to offer. We'll be honest, we went back again, too. We still dig it. We even had to wait a few minutes to get seated - something Dentonites don't always have to do. We paid tribute to their beautiful Willie Nelson shrine the same day his tour bus had an accident.
The mural from the folks at Eyecon seems to be one of the most eye-catching aspects of LSA. Here's a photo of it from Jackson Daly.

Sarah Adams took a break in between comedy acts and the UNT game (that we won't talk about) to hit up LSA, too.
Sunday Print Shop is one of the more interesting projects going on in Denton right now. We hope to have more about them in the near future. In the meantime, check 'em out here or their Instagram.

WHAT WE DID: NOVEMBER 18TH
Well, we've been pretty busy this weekend, y'all, but we didn't get to take too many photos. Y'all still did, though, and that's awesome. Bike races, parades and the little fest that could, Oaktopia, all happened this weekend. Here's the pics to prove it. Denton loves its parades. Veteran's Day is included among those days we celebrate with a parade. Now that we think about it, are there any holidays that can't be improved by a parade? Can't think of any. Here's a shot from Bryse Olcon of the parade from last Monday.

THE DEN10: OCTOBER 30th
We’re almost through with Denton’s National Holiday, Halloween and what a Halloween it has been so far! Last week we saw the coffin races, Denton’s Day of The Dead Festival and an incredible Cirque du Horror. All that continues through this Thursday when the contests get underway and we discover the true meaning of Halloween: making cold hard cash for your Sexy Mustard costume. So get out there and gram and hashtag #WDDI and get featured in our What We Did post on Monday.

UPC Boo Bash / Children’s Halloween Carnival | The Coliseum | 6PM - 8PMThis is a Halloween carnival for the local elementary students and families put on by UNT student organizations hosting the activity booths and games where the kids win candy and prizes.

Good / Bad Art Collective Presents: Rock Lottery 12 | Dan’s Silverleaf | 8:30PM | $15
Twenty five hand picked musicians get put into 5 bands at 10AM and have to write and rehearse a set to be preformed at Dan’s that night. This is the 12th such event and it is always a sellout so be prepared to get there at 8:30 if you want to experience this evening. For $5 extra you can go to the selection ceremony, get breakfast and watch the official band portraits get made. All proceeds this year will go to the Denton County Friends Of The Family.
THE DEN10: WEDNESDAY OCT 16
When is this rain going to end? I guess whenever we get it, folks always say we need it but the general consensus at the barber shop is that it's going to be a very cold and wet winter so I guess we'd better get used to it. Time to waterproof those boots, stock up on sweaters and start experimenting with some good winter soup recipes if you're going to have any chance of surviving. A bunch of 60's and 70's tribute bands will be shutting down Industrial St. this Sunday and the chances are very high it will rain just because this is a festival in Denton.
WHAT WE DID: OCTOBER 7TH
Oh man, what a weekend. We hope your weekend was at least half as awesome as ours was. Canned, that festival we've been jabbering on about for months now, finally happened, and it was awesome. We also had our first cold-snap of the season and got totally drenched during said festival, but it still managed to be pretty danged awesome. In addition to that, October's First Friday was great and there were quite a few other things going on that WDDI readers visited and documented, too. Oh, if you read these Monday morning What We Did posts exclusively for pics of food that we ate, you're going to be disappointed this week. Not nearly as many food photos today. Thursday evening, UNT on the Square had some live jazz in house. Reader, Shaina Shaeff, was there to capture this dude pounding some keys.

We visited a Farrier's Competition over at the North Texas Fairgrounds and saw a bunch of forges and hammers.
One of our North Texas faves, Nervous Curtains, played Hailey's on Friday. Aubrey Salsman - who coincidentally has one of the best Instagram handles we've ever seen - was there to capture this light-filled shot.

We made sure to catch the new show up at the UNT on the Square gallery - it's one of our favorite to date.

AM Ramblers opened up the show and had things off to a great start.

Hares on the Mountain was up next. While they pretty much are represented in What We Did every single week, we don't ever really tire of them. They're always a joy to behold and photo snags like this one make them fun in still form, too! Seriously, limberness like this takes some practice.
Alana Presley and Kent Boring from Keep Denton Beautiful and Denton Recycles were straight thuggin' at the show.
Local band, Pageantry, who seem to getting some deserved attention lately, attempted to scare away any possible Canned fest-goers before the show with this frightening gram. Also, remember the time we included Pageantry in our first 3 songs column last winter?
DIME Handmade spared a couple of their awesome ladies to Canned. They sold some locally-made goods and smiled a lot.
Eventually, though, Denton's "rainy festival curse" hexed upon us Eli Gemini before he moved away a few years ago reared it's ugly head. Patrons - us included - took shelter from the rain wherever they could. By the way, trees don't make great rain cover, FYI.
A short while later, the sky cleared back up. Actually, it got super nice outside and gave us our first excuse to throw on a hoodie this fall season. We liked this shot of the Snosirrom Stik-Nroc sign and the post-rain sunset.
Helio Sequence kept the party going as the festival started to dry up.
Menomena finished up the fest with a performance we won't soon be forgetting.
WHAT WE DID: SEPTEMBER 9TH
First Friday is starting to become a Denton favorite around these parts. It ranks up there with Twilight Tunes as far as consistent fun goes. We hit up several different places in and around the square that were participating in First Friday - there were more things to check out than we had time to see! We hope to see a few more businesses taking part in this monthly celebration. Aside from that, we also had the pleasure of seeing some live music and enjoyed being our normal, fat selves, cramming food into our gullets. The last of us finally tried Goldmine BBQ and were sadly left with the same impression others have had. Above is the "burnt ends" appetizer. Not only did they have the visual appeal of dog food (covered in a syrupy sweet sauce, even), but they weren't even actually burnt ends. The rest of the meal followed suit. Maybe things will turn around soon. We hope so.
First Friday seems to be building up some steam. Scrap and The DIME Store both had free beer, UNT had a wonderful display of Denton photos (look below), and lots of folks were out, milling about. Above you can see the crew behind Denton's Ugly Rugger brewing Company set up sharing their suds at DIME.
We caught Chambers at St. David's on a busy Friday evening. We're hopeful that we'll be seeing more shows at this beautiful building soon.
DIME also had free crafts for First Friday attendees. We tried our hand at embroidery.
Paschall bar hosted a listening party for Midlake's upcoming album. We checked it out and were pleased with what we heard.
We found out that our breakfast taco dealers, La Estrella, serve some delicious menudo on Saturdays and Sundays. We suggest grabbing a bowl next weekend.
The "Photographs of Denton" exhibit at UNT on the Square features the work of many photographers and their viewpoints of Denton. We highly suggest checking it out. Heck, it is free, afterall.
While we haven't been inside in a while (sorry, Mike). The exterior of El Guapo's caught one reader's eye on their way down to DIME for First Friday last week. It's a great walk from the square, if you haven't tried it yet.
We had reason to head south on the train this weekend to check out Delta Spirit as part of Untapped. It made us all the more anticipated for Canned, which will be here before you know it.
THE DEN10: AUGUST 21
Well, here we go. Summer's done and we've got a whole semester in front of us to start getting things done. This week we've got the Better Blocks info meeting on Wednesday. If you want to see what that's about, check out this TedTalk. We'll be rolling out our riveting back-to-school content soon so be on the lookout for all that as we welcome the student population back into town.
