Last Friday evening, we held a pool party / cannonball contest at Denton's Civic Center Pool to raise funds for the Denton Parks Foundation. This weekend was not only the last weekend of the season for the pool to be open, but also the very last weekend of all time for the diving board. The pool will be renovated this year and the new plans do not accommodate a diving board. To give it a proper sendoff, we planned a cannonball contest. The event saw folks of all ages swing by to see how big of a splash they could make (both literally and figuratively) and it quickly devolved from cannonballs to jack knifes and belly flops. By the end of the night we were able to raise almost $600 for the Denton Parks Foundation. The money will go towards the Eureka 2 project which you can read more about here. Okay, the weather folks are whispering about rain and cold fronts later this week. We're hoping that writing about it won't jinx it 'cause we could sure go for some sub-90 temps right about now. Grilling steaks on Labor Day weekend when the thermometer is buzzing around 100 ain't too fun. Anyway, here's a day late What We Did (it isn't a dollar short, though). We took Labor Day off to eat some baked dough with cheese at Pizza Snob.

WDDI PRESENTS: THE CANNONBALL BOUT
The end of summer is nearing. The kids are brushing off their backpacks, the teachers are prepping their rooms, the new college freshmen are driving the wrong way down Oak Street, the marching bands can be heard practicing early and late and the days are starting to cool off a little. Okay, well all of that is happening - except for that last part - wishful thinking. Thankfully we have a solution for that.
