The week between move-in and classes is a truly magical time in Denton. The yearly injection of wide eyed optimism that the students bring is refreshing. As always, dodging cars heading the wrong way on Oak or Hickory keeps the townies on their toes.

Every Monday, we like to share a few photos from town that have been tagged #WDDI on Instagram. This week, we have 18 photos from the past seven days of life in Denton, TX. UNT and TWU both start back up for the spring semester tomorrow and it is shaping up to be a busy one. In addition, today is Martin Luther King day. The DRC has a list of a few events going on today that you can still take part in.
If you'd like to be included in What We Did, tag your images with #WDDI on Instagram, and check back here next Monday. What We Did is our weekly roundup of photos that WDDI staff and readers have taken over the past seven days. We've got sixteen of our favorite images from the week below. They feature plenty of live music, food, and more Jason Lee (because he apparently still loves us). Wonder if he's a fan of red spray paint...

Summer is almost over and if you’ve not got your plans together to blow it, don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of things you can get into. This week, possibly the most intriguing event is the Goliad kickoff party at Dan’s. It’s a “media production house” according to the site (which really is beautiful and I recommend checking it out). It seems to be reminiscent and connected to the Porch scene so we’re hoping for good things. Remember y’all, life is short, hashtag WDDI.

After 24 months, the 35 Denton music festival is back this year. There are signs all around - the new mural at Oak St. Draft House, the marquee at Dan's Silverleaf, heck even your Facebook event invites are probably blowing up right now. We're pretty pumped for this weekend. There's more than just music, too, several panels, exhibitions, photography walks, and and more are planned. Below, are several #WDDI-approved local bands that we've written about before in our monthly Three Songs column that will be playing the festival. Check out a tune (or video) of theirs, the times they'll be planing and read some of our thoughts below.
