The cooler weather was sure nice while it lasted, but August is here and time is running out to explore our WDDI Guide to Summer Fun in Denton and the CVB’s Denton On A Dollar as the countdown for back-to-school begins. This week in #DENTONING adventures has a lot of milestones, so here is our top #DEN10 events to peruse but post your favorites we missed in the comments.
THURSDAY, August 2nd
Stark Trio Going Away Show| Steve’s Wine Bar | 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Brian Stark is moving to Illinois so this is the last show he’ll be playing with his Thursday evening band, so do stop in to wish him Godspeed. Meanwhile, up at Barley & Board, Jeffrey Barnes is joining Thad Bonduris for some First Thursday Gypsy Jazz, and there is also a Poetry Open Mic at the GDAC.
FRIDAY, August 3rd
First Friday Denton| Downtown Denton | 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Take a walkabout tour of the participating businesses and galleries hosting events through the evening, starting with free beer Friday at the Discover Denton Welcome Center! An Evening with Jason Lee at the GDAC is already sold out, but you should check out his photography exhibition this weekend before it closes.
Cosmic Yacht IPA Launch Party| Armadillo Ales | 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
The Armadillo Brewmeisters debut their extra-hoppy double IPA, a supernova of celestial flavors and exotic aromas using the juiciest hops in any quadrant! Served in limited edition glassware and Pan Ector is live screen printing tshirts, but be sure to sample the foodtruck PRIME From Scratch special menu: Cosmic Yacht Braised Sausage with Peppers and Onions on a Hoagie Roll w/ house-made Cosmic Yacht Mustard. Ghost’s Farewell Show| Abbey Underground | 9:00 PM - 1:55 AM
It is truly the end of an era as Dieselbeast bids a fond farewell to their singer and founding member in one of the last shows booked at the Abbey Underground, which itself is closing its doors at the end of August after rocking the Denton Square for a decade.
Funky Space Disco & Soft Sculpture Exhibition| J&J’s Undercrust | 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM
The ODB will be transformed into an interstellar space disco with an invasion of other-worldly plushie creations from OTTER ILLUSTRATION, all grooving to beats being dropped from another galaxy far far away!!
SATURDAY, August 4th
Denton Community Market | Denton County Historic Park | 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
The beloved Denton Community Market is the best way to ring in Saturdays, with all kinds of nifty crafty swag, produce, veggies, food, tours of the Bayless-Selby House, and live music! Browsing always pairs nicely with Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square. Also stop by the Emily Fowler Library for their August Book Sale!
Spiderweb Salon’s 6 Year Anniversary| Dan’s SilverLeaf | 7:00 PM - 1:00 AM
In art-collective years, this is a HUGE milestone for these webspinners, and they intend to celebrate! Come out for fantastic festivities, thought-provoking performances, awe-inspiring collaborations, and raise a glass in praise of all things creative and beautiful and special in our community! Special guests and a few surprises are guaranteed.

Komodo Loco Food Pairing | Armadillo Ale Works | 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM
The culinary creatives of Komodo Loco are preparing dishes to pair with some of the Armadillo Ale beers and served up in their newly-opened Taproom. Tickets are $40/person but space will be limited, so get ‘em quick!
