SHAUN TREAT
The recent sunshine heralds Spring Break for the universities, which kicks-off this weekend, so here’s a look at our top #DEN10 events to check out as you’re out and about #DENTONING this next week.
THURSDAY, March 8th
Anniversary Party Weekend | Harvest House | 5:00 PM - 1:59 AM
The weekend celebrates the wonder that is Harvest House beginning on Thursday, with drink specials, food specials, and live music like we’ve become accustomed! Thursdays are always poppin’ downtown with Glitterbomb at Andy’s, a bicycle social ride at Eastside, or jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, so you have options.
Acid KoolAid Pre-Fest Freakout | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 9:00 PM - 2:00 AM
Just a little over a month away from the 2nd Annual ACID KOOLAID FEST, so what better way to commemorate our collective hysteria than with a good old fashioned $5 FREAK OUT? The line-up looks far out, man. Saturday is Sister / Tony Ferraro.
FRIDAY, March 9th
Coast to Coast with Spiderweb Salon | Wine2 | 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Marcus Jade is touring from NYC and making his first appearance on the scene in DFW, and Denton-raised Colin Winnette from San Francisco is also on the last leg of his tour for his frightening new book, the Job of the Wasp. Accompanying them will be an eclectic krewe of local talent to round out the evening in true Spiderweb Salon style!
LE FREAK | Rockin Rodeo | 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM
If’n you heard that the ole Rockin’ Rodeo is about to close in April, then it doesn’t look like they’re gonna coast along quietly into the sunset. “The Greatest Disco Band In The World from Dallas” is bringing a night to boogie down.
Beerman | Jack’s Tavern | 8:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Denton’s will-sing-for-beer acoustic guitar legend ambles on stage for an evening of Country & Western standards along with whatever the heck else Beerman feels like playing.
SATURDAY, March 10th
Texas Storytelling Festival | Denton Civics Center | Thurs-Sun daily events
We love us some Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square, but the weekend is also going to be full of storytelling and storytellers with the 33rd Annual soiree. Looks like a full schedule of all-ages events.
Rockabilly Rumble Double-Header | Lone Star Indoor Sports | 9:00 AM & 5:00 PM
North Texas Roller Derby hosts their season opener for the Fighting Unicorns and the Battling Mermaids starting at 5pm, but you can catch a sneak peak at their 9am Open House. Only $10, BYOB and a lawn chair.
Fun Button EP Release | BackYard On Bell | 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM
To celebrate the release of the band’s sophomore EP, Derp, the BYOB is including other yardbirds like Sunbuzzed, ROAR SHACK, and Springtime & The Changes in this free show evening.
SUNDAY, March 11th
6 Year Anniversary Party | OSDH&CP | 12:00 PM – 1:59:00 AM
The bearded house party that never ends celebrates another year with food trucks, live music including Levi Cobb & The Big Smoke and Raised Right Men, special tappings, and a pint glass with t-shirt combo to stuff your drawers! Take advantage of Daylight Savings extra hour of sunshine by sippin’ on their patio. Oh yeah, Teacher’s Spring Break Happy Hour starts on Friday so pace yourselves.
Make a Zine Workshop | SCRAP | 2☺0 PM – 4:00 PM
Donna Joy shares paper collage techniques with paint, colored pencils, pastels and ephemra to unleash your creativity in a story of your own making! Just $10.
