SHAUN TREAT
Spring Break is wrapping-up and students will be returning, but the tulips are in bloom in Pilot Point as our spring fever (and allergies) kicks into high gear. Since there is never any shortage of happenings, here is a look at our top #DEN10 events to check out as y’all are out and about #DENTONING this coming St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
THURSDAY, March 15th
Boxcar Bandits | Barley & Board | 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Denton’s beloved troubadours blew our socks off at the OSDH&CP 6th Anniversary last weekend, so here’s another chance to inject more boot-tapping tunes into your week! Thursdays are always poppin’ downtown with Glitterbomb at Andy’s, a bicycle social ride at Eastside, or jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, so you have options.
FRIDAY, March 16th
Pizza Art Show | J&J’s ODB | 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Check out local art inspired by pizza in the basement of J&J's pizza, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners awarded with prizes (most likely pizza-related)! Of course there’s also live music.
Andy’s Science Fiction Showcase | Andy’s Bar | 9:00 PM - 2:00 AM
The world of tomorrow is quickly becoming the reality of today, but fear not weary star travelers, Andy's Science Fiction Showcase will recharge your turbo encabulators to full capacitance. They’re beaming down four local (but still out-of-this-world) bands to transmit sound waves directly into your pre-frontal cortex, with maybe even a few cosmic surprises for those who maintain full equilibrium throughout the night.
March Madness Post-SXSW Showcase | Killer Tacos | 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM
BLVR Booking & Mike Hightower Management present a Killer Tacos evening featuring The Young Step, Stress Fractures, Father Mountain, Tongues of Fire, Quinn Cicala, Science For Giants, and Can’t Hardly Wait. Just $10 to savor the entire line-up that sounds like they’ve just returned from Mount Mordor.
SATURDAY, March 17th
Archaeology Day | 1015 Hill Street | 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Join the Denton County Historical Commission and the Denton County Office of History and Culture for Archaeology Day at the site of the soon-to-be-restored Woods House. Help excavate the site and hopefully discover historic Quakertown relics that will become part of the Office of History & Culture’s Permanent Collection. Be like Indiana Jones and help them put these treasures in a museum.
St. Patrick’s Day Buffet & Concert | Abbey Underground | 4:30 PM & 8:30 PM
We love us some Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square, but the Abbey Inn is putting on a magically delicious afternoon buffet. Braised Corned beef brisket, Lamb & herb meatloaf with Guiness gravy, grilled Irish bangers and Gaelic Chicken await if’n you’re lucky enough to reserve a seat as Country Rexford puts on a concert of traditional Irish musical standards!! Éirinn go Brách, y’all!
St. Patrick’s Day Party | Eastside & OSDH | 11:00 AM – 1:59 PM
The St. Patrick’s Day weekend is full-tilt boogie, and those bearded barbacks at Eastside and Oak St. Draft House are going green with tshirts and drink specials. Not to be outdone, Riprocks teams-up with Caskey’s Bar & Grill to serve green beer with a charity Toyota raffle on Fry Street. Denton County Brewing hosts an 8-foot Leprechaun Release, Harvest House is partying all night, and even Milpa Kitchen is getting in on the spirit.
The Silver Leaf Crock Pot Competition | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 2:00 PM - 5:00 AM
You say crock pot, I say slow cooker, but Dan’s only cares about the tasty results. There will be a Judge’s Winner and a People’s Favorite, and you can bring whatever magic recipe you think will score you the grand prize… a brand new crock pot! For just $5 you can sample the entries.
Shamrock Comedy 3 | Tom’s Daiquiri | 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
This third annual yucksfest storms Fry Street, benefiting Language of Laughter’s initiatives to combat childhood illiteracy. Local comics charging the stage include Zachary Arredondo, Tony Casillas, Monna, LaRon Wright, Javoris James & Dalton Pruitt.
SUNDAY, March 18th
Sunday Supper with Rossana & Suzanne | Chestnut Tree | 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Beginning March 18th, Rossana from Fortunata Winery, Suzanne and Daniel Johnson from The Chestnut Tree, and Ryann Reid from Agua Dulce will be teaming up to offer a monthly dinner adventure that’s sure to excite your taste buds! This is their inaugural collaboration, but you gotta ring The Chestnut Tree to reserve seats since it is sure to fill fast.
