SHAUN TREAT
The upside to all the freezing cold weather is that the dang mosquitoes are deader’n Dillinger, but still doesn’t mean we Dentonites like it too much. Luckily, the weekend is bringing warmer temps so here’s a look at our top #DEN10 events to check out as you’re out and about.
THURSDAY, January 18
Richard Gilbert “Daybreak” Release | GDAC | 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM
This Denton bard is a regular on the local music circuit, and the debut of his new EP will be showcased with a 45 minute live set! Thursdays are always poppin’ with Glitterbomb at Andy’s, a bicycle ride at Eastside, or jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, so keep moving to stay warm.
LGBTQ+ Social Hour | Harvest House | 9:00 PM - 11:59 PM
OUTreach Denton hosts their first adult social hour of 2018 as university students return, so start the new year off with good company and good drinks.
FRIDAY, January 19
Doug Burr | Andy’s Bar | 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Lee Bozeman and Gileah Taylor will serenade, and Doug Burr is sure to enchant, in this evening of soulful songs. Tickets will go fast, so get yours here.
SATURDAY, January 20
Women’s March Reunion | Denton County Courthouse Lawn | 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
We love us some Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square, but it’s also the Women’s March Reunion on the Downtown Square so expect crowds! Afterwards in the afternoon, there’s a Classic Chevy meet-n-greet down the strip at Mr. Frosty’s ‘til 3pm!
Building Bridges Community Event | Patterson-Appleton Arts Center | 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
It’s the third annual pre-festival event, dedicated to celebrating African-American arts, music, film and culture with lots of fun activities, vendors, dance, and giveaways! The Denton Black Film Festival is then hosting Vivid Shadows Fashion Show from 7-11pm.
Fuzzy’s Taco 10th Anniversary Party | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
El Nuevo Mi Son is rockin’ the house for this anniversary blowout, where the Fuzzys folks are raffling a Big Green Egg while salsa dancing.
Spiderweb Salon’s 2018 Winter Formal | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 7:00 PM - 1:00 AM
Promising a magical night of performance, poetry, music, art, film, friendship, dancing, and so much more, this 80s throwback thowdown will be serving up a prom night theme. We’re betting there will be a LOT of big hair.
SUNDAY, January 21
Bluegrass Brunch | Dan’s Silver Leaf | 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Get your funnybone tickled by Joey Johnson, Brad McKenzie, Taylor Higginbotham, Tony Cassillas, and Kenny Severson at this Thin Line Film Fest fundraiser, with a prize raffle thrown in as a bonus. Get there early for some with Pamfood and the Boxcar Bandits!
Eastside vs Jupiter House Tug-of-War | East Side | 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
What better way to support our favorite Jupiter House baristas during this unfortunate time after the fire, than to cheer them on during a good old-fashioned game of Tug of War! Outrageous outfits, smacktalk, and a live DJ to MC the epic contest!
TUESDAY, January 23
Nerd Nite 22 | Bearded Monk | 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM
It’s like TEDtalks crossed with Drunk History Channel, Nerd Nite is bringing fascinating talks on gadgets and gizmos with “What The Tech?” topics.
Be sure to tag your pretty Instagram pics with #WDDI so maybe you make the cut on Monday’s glorious “What We Did” review, and sound off in the comments if you have other fave events to add!
