THE DEN10: JULY 5TH 2017

SHAUN TREAT

The Fourth was a lot of fun but geez is this hot humidity startin’ to drag it outta ya or what? Just when you think Denton weather can’t get any wackier, Texas just smiles and says, “Hold my Lone Star and watch THIS!” You can still get in on our top picks for “Denton Summertime Fun” or “Kid Camps” and maybe these “Denton Podcasts” to pass time in your cubicle or that dang long drive on the MadMax heckscape called I-35. Regardless, there’s always plenty to do here in the Lil’ D so here are our top picks for keepin’ cool as you stay entertained.

THURSDAY, July 6th

Coffee and Bikes with Sara | Shift Coffee | 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Join in this chat with Sara Bagheri, Denton City Council Member [At Large Place 6], about the Denton bike plan, proposed bike lanes, parking, transportation & urban mobility, or just plain ol' gabbin’ about bikes. You should hit up Killer’s Tacos Open Mic Night afterwards!

FRIDAY, July 7th

Taco Trudy’s Free Happy Hour Buffet with Beerman  | Jack’s Tavern | 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
“Taco Tuesday” is cute marketing and all, but Taco THURSDAY at Jack’s promises no cover and a live show from Brian “Beerman” Houser in the A/C. Trudy, you had me at taco buffet.

Supersonic Lips release w Single Issues & Kyoto Lo-Fi  | Andy’s Bar | 9:00 PM - 1:00 AM

Acid Koolaid Festival  | BackYard On Bell | 7:00 PM - 12:00 AM
BYOB (oh LOL just noticed the acronym) is trying to inaugurate what they hope to be an annual 2-day festival with creative collaborations between an assortment of 21 bands & musicians, artists, vendors, and groovy psychedelic variety. Observe, support, and report!

SATURDAY, July 8th

Top 10 ASL Signs | Denton County Courthouse On The Square Museum | 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM
A Junior Girl Scout shares some basic sign language in the historic Courthouse, but Saturdays are made for the Denton Community Market and you should also definitely peruse exhibits at the Denton County Courthouse, a photography exhibition at UNT On The Square, comic books exhibit at UNT Libraries, contemporary art at the tAd, a nifty postcards installation at TWU Visual Arts, featured exhibits at TWU Library, and of course pretty watercolors at the GDAC.

Wayne “The Train” Hancock  | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Dan’s is bringing back this bonafide Texas crooner for a live show of twangy tunes, get tix early.

RHB Nights Summer Concert Series  | Rabbit Hole Brewing | 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Sometimes we crave a summertime staycation destination to mix things up a mite, and just down the road in Justin those jesters at Rabbit Hole Brewing are kicking off what look to be a cool music series through September. We also hear our pals at Witherspoon Distillery in Old Lewisville and Western Son Vodka up in Pilot Point are becoming destinations to check.

SUNDAY, July 9th

Sour Sunday!  | EastSide | 2:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Pucker up! Featuring close to 20 sour beers on tap and food trucks on-site, John’s barbacks sample a bunch of funky tart offerings that just may turn out to be your new summertime fave.

Denton Community Market Handmade Market  | Mulberry Street Cantina | 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Sip tasty margaritas as you check out the locally-made art & crafted goods while watching baseball or maybe playing Mario Cart later.

MONDAY, July 10th

Paul Slavens LIVE  | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 9:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Paul is a weekly local treasure. If you’ve never experienced this mad comic genius’ improvisational music show in person, then you need to get out more! Tip generously and this music legend will author a song johnny-on-the-spot while the audience laughs along!

Holla in the comments if you have a fave we missed, and be sure to tag your adventure photos with #WDDI so maybe you make the cut on Monday’s “What We Did” review.
