Having spent almost a decade in Louisiana, my heart has grown three sizes bigger as the selections for good Cajun or Creole cuisine in Denton has exploded in recent years. Sure, Denton is still getting used to the idea of a proper Mardi Gras celebration (that Mardi Gras On Walnut idea needs to get resurrected BTW), but turns out there’s plenty to do and see locally this weekend if’n you wanna Laissez les bons temps rouler! Here’s your 2017 Guide to Denton Mardi Gras.
CAJUN CUISINE
All our favorite spots are serving up crawfish, of course, but here are a few other choice selections beyond and including the usual fare...
Hoochie's Casual Seafood Dining
Try their Raw Oysters with a Hoochie Platter for 2 and you'll be back, but Sam's gumbo is some'a the best you'll find in DFW. My favorite standout tho is the Baton Rouge, an open-face Blackened Fish po-boy with fries and cole slaw on top... dats good eatin', cha!
Love their Creole Crawfish or Shrimp Etouffee, and their Tuesday night Baked Oyster Bar is a definite must for sampling their menu! Finish it off with a slice of Key Lime Pie or regret the missed opportunity later.
Frilly's Seafood Bayou Kitchen
Crab Cakes over crawfish, and their Jumbo Shrimp Brochette, are favorite specialties alongside their Swamp Fries or Fried Pickles. Frilly's Red Beans and Rice is the real deal.
