This is a 5 day, 35 band, 6 house and 1 craft house event that is completely free because not everybody has $85, but everybody loves live music.
Thursday, September 22nd
North Texas Giving Day | Downtown | 6AM - 12PM
Give to your favorite local charities and see positive change in our community. This lasts all day and certain city counselors and local celebrities may be victims of the dunk tank at the Communities in Schools booth at around 6PM.
Oaktopia MMXVI | Downtown | 6PM through September 24th
That fest which none greater fest can be conceived. Go home folks, these guys did it. Norah Jones, Dr. Dog, Best Coast, Andrew W.K. and more for the tiny fest that could.

Stark and the Mov(e)Session | UNT On The Square | 7PM - 8PM
Prolific UNT One’o’clocker / saxophoner, Brian Stark and his group are bringing the flamenco fakebooks and throwing them at eight special guests vocalists. As the saying goes in Denton, you can’t throw a flamenco fake book without hitting a singer.

Dan's Haunted House is all about Japanese horror this year. If you see the girl from Audition, go the other way.
Granatum Film Fest + Oaktopia | Campus Theatre | 5PM
Head over to the Campus Theatre on Friday during Oaktopia to check out 9 short films. Some are locally-made (like Wesley Kirk's video for Leon Carlo) and some have traveled the festival circuit with the best of 'em.
Saturday, September 24th
Oaktopia Panels | GDAC | 10AM - 1PM | FREE
If you want lesser known Oaktopia events for it, Mike Seman's brunch is a good bet. Also noted is this years keynote speaker, Scott Booker. Oaktopia has tons of great non-music events. Aside from this brunch, there are also the aforementioned short films, The Root alt-fashion showcase, and much more.
