It is officially almost Christmas, y'all. Do you have all of your shopping done? We don't either. Don't worry. You can get all of your non-online Christmas shopping done in Denton. Below are a few gift suggestions for your boyfriend, girlfriend, platonic buddy, parents, child, grandma, or even that one cool co-worker that helps you get through your day. All of them will help you spend your hard-earned dollars in town. If you have any local gifts you'd like to receive, let us know in the comments and maybe your sister-in-law will see it and buy it for ya!
Go visit Armand at Denton Camera Exchange and have him help you pick out a vintage camera for your photography-obsessed friend. Keep in mind you can still get film for many old-school Polaroid cameras through the Impossible Project also sold at Denton Camera Exchange. Better yet - message him ahead of time and then bring your significant other with you and have a portrait made of the two of you on 8 x 10 Impossible Project film.
Denton shirts are a big deal these days. Heck, we will probably have one for sale sometime soon. In the meantime, there are lots of great ones you can get in town. Make sure to stop by the Discover Denton Welcome Center on the square to check out the plethora of Denton-related T-shirts (and other items, too) that they have in stock. Pan Ector has quite a few great designs. Jude Landry's "Oh no you Denton" shirt is available at The Dime Store. Denton Swag has plenty of other great items (such as the typographical poster you can find below) and sells items in the Discover Denton Welcome Center, too.
Someone on your list probably likes beer and Denton has several options for them in 2016. Stop by The Bearded Monk and fill up a growler with a delicious brewed beverage (preferably local). Midway Craft Mart or Taps and Caps are also great growler stops for interesting brews.
A wallet or key lanyard from Clint Wilkinson's Bell and Oak Collection makes a great gift for men or women. Clint Wilkinson, owner of Bell and Oak, is crafting some of the most beautiful handmade leather goods around (yes, even outside of Denton). We're pretty much feeling like we need all leather everything now. Don't even get us started on the amazing 'new leather' smell that happens when you pick up a new piece for your growing wallet collection - it's addicting. We've had our Clint Wilkinson-made wallet for a couple of years now and really love the patina it has developed over time. This is also a great time to stop by Weldon's for some western shopping before they close after the new year.
The DIME Store should be at the top of your list of places to shop in Denton this holiday season. You'll find items such as a Rachel Elise clutch - the bag to be seen with in Denton. She makes some awesomely handsome bags. Handmade jewelry from Archerplusshare can be found both in The DIME Store, as well as her Etsy shop. It's the perfect way to buy jewelry without over-thinking diamonds or hearts. Freckled Pottery is one of DIME's newest sellers and we love their Thrō Studio makes beautifully raw handmade ceramics with a unique minimalist feel to them. Savvie Studio creates laser cuttings, jewelry and home goods that would make any high school geometry teacher drool (and probably you, too). All of these items (and plenty more) can be found at The DIME Store.
Do you have someone on your list that is obsessed with retro videogames, comic books, or toys? Go run by Freaks and Geeks on Elm St. and you will have plenty of options. This is a great opportunity to show your child that the original SNES Mario Kart is somehow way better than Mario Kart 8. Additionally, Otter Illustration makes all sorts of interesting prints that appeal to the same audience. Want artwork on your walls that features either Mario or the xenomorph from the alien movies? He's your guy. You can find Otter Illustration designs at The DIME Store.
Y’all play board games, right? We sure do. We like to stroll by More Fun Comics, Books and Games on the square and get a new one every now and then. Pandemic Legacy is a great choice for a board game Christmas present, but if you’re looking for something a bit more casual, then go for Fluxx or Sushi Go! Ask to join their game club while you're there. Buy ten games over time and you'll get one for free!
Still not sure what to get that special someone? Maybe one of these quickfire items will fill that need:
A CHL course from Quail Creek Gun Range.
A couple giant aluminum letters (maybe a couple of you can get the letters for “BUTT,” "BEER," or “DUMB” if you hurry) from Serendipity.
Get a reservation and take them to eat at Keiichi.
Go peruse the Crafts subreddit, make some notes, and then head over to SCRAP Denton and get crafty. You can do it.
A new suit from J.T. Clothiers!
Lavender bath salts and body butter from Austin Street Apothecary - also available at The DIME Store.
An Anna Tovar print from The Dime Store makes a great gift for a lady-friend or even your Mom.
Lessons from the Ghost Note, because he’s always wanted to be a drummer at heart. He just doesn't talk openly about it.
The Denton Holiday Lighting Festival's Collectible Denton Christmas Ornaments make great gifts for that person that spends too much time decorating their tree.
A gift certificate to Recycled for that issue of McSweeney's #42 they've been holding out for.
