SEEN & HEARD: JULY 13th 2015

will milne July 13, 2015

It’s hot. Stay indoors. Or do something cool outdoors. There's windy spots where it doesn't feel like 100 degrees outside, or so we've heard. If you find one of said spots, let us know. We're kinda melting. We've got you and yours covered this week with plenty of family-friendly events below. Check them all out in this week's Seen & Heard.

Monday, July 13th

Play chess with your family at Emily Fowler Library on Monday evening.

Play chess with your family at Emily Fowler Library on Monday evening.

Chess Night | Emily Fowler Library | Free | 6pm
All ages and all levels are welcome to play. Go kick your kid's butt with an illegal move. Life lessons.

Tuesday, July 14th

Lil’d Summer Gardening Camp | Calhoun Middle School Garden | Free | 9am
Explorium Denton hosts this twice-a-week program for children ages 5-11 at the CMS Garden. Come to any or all sessions, but please let them know you’re coming by emailing info@exploriumdenton.org. This event is also happening on Thursday.

Shark Class | Painting with a Twist | $35 | 2-4pm
This class is for water lovers ages 8 and up. Parents may drop off or stay. Either way you’ll wind up with a treasured piece of art for your home.

Paint a shark at Painting with a Twist on Tuesday.

Wednesday, July 15th

Ceramic Class | Marynell’s Craft Attack | $45/mo | 10am
Marynell offers a ceramic class each Wednesday for $45 per month.  Get in on the action!

School’s out, Scrap’s In | Scrap | $20 | 1-4pm
Seriously this is probably the best deal in town. A hump-day treat to break up the monotonous week now that the kids are all at home for the summer. You won’t regret signing your child(ren) up for every session-yep, it’s EVERY Wednesday afternoon!

Cinemark Summer Movie Camp | Cinemark Wind River | $1 | 9:30am
A dollar for a movie? What a great way to beat the heat! For families with children of all ages, this week’s feature film is “How to Train Your Dragon 2.” Cheap kids combo makes for a nice distraction for those kiddos who just won’t sit still. Miss it on Wednesday? Catch a flick on Thursday with the same deal! This program continues through August 13.

Thursday, July 16th

The American Buffalo | Emily Fowler Library | Free | 4:00pm
Register in advance for this informative and fun history program which includes stories and crafts for ages 6-10.

Friday, July 17th

Sonic Day at Waterworks Park | Waterworks Park | Regular admission | 11 - close
Thanks to Sonic, you can help raise funds for the new Eureka playground simply by enjoying a hot dog while you’re at Waterworks Park! Sonic will also be hosting games and contests while they’re there.

Summer Concert Series | Golden Triangle Mall | Free | 7pm
Stop by the food court area (which is mighty nice now that it’s been renovated) and enjoy a free concert this Friday night.

Saturday, July 18th

Explorium Denton | Denton Community Market | Free | 9-1
The Market offers so many wonderful handmade items, local produce, and entertainment. Why not spend your morning like a local? Your children will love the newest exhibit by Explorium Denton!

Anyah Martinez is the mother of three busy boys and the founder of Explorium Denton, an emerging children's museum taking shape in Denton.
