Fantastic! Doctor Who, the fictional time lord from the popular and long-running British television show of the same name, will feature the city of Denton, TX on an upcoming comic book cover to be released Saturday, April 4th.
The comic strip version of Doctor Who has been running on and off since the 1960's. This issue marks the new debut series published by Titan Comics. The limited edition cover features the Doctor's famous time machine and spacecraft, the TARDIS, on the Denton courthouse lawn with the actual courthouse in the background.
Tim Stoltzfus, owner of More Fun Comics and Games and all around cool dude, has been working for over a year to get a Denton cover made for the Doctor Who comic series and he finally got his wish. "I approached the publisher about creating a really unique item for the city of Denton, and they were very excited and receptive," Stoltzfus said. "The Courthouse is such an iconic landmark, I thought what could be better than putting two icons together on one cover?"
And it gets even better than that. They're working with local artists to make it happen. Denton artist Jake Ekiss did the artwork for the cover. "I've been watching the show since I was quite young as old episodes would air on KERA here in Dallas late Saturday nights after other similar British shows like Red Dwarf," Ekiss said.
You can purchase your copy of the comic on March 18th (UPDATE: Scratch that, April 4th, is the day now) exclusively at More Fun Comics and Games on the Denton square. Watch out for Daleks when you're lined up on the sidewalk, though.
When we woke up this morning and saw that damned weasel flying on the back of a woodpecker's back, we were pretty sure that was the strangest thing we'd see today - heck, maybe for the whole week. Boy, were we wrong.
