Author, game show host, and comedian Steve Harvey is investing in Denton's newest venue, Harvest House. The 58 year old actor is no stranger to Denton. Harvey, who has called various areas of DFW home at different times, found the bar/venue in Denton to be what he called both "awesome" and "manly." Harvest House, which started as a house show venue and has since gone on to become one of Denton's most successful bars, has been embraced by the Denton community in the year that they've been open.
The venue, originally co-owned by a few people without spaces on the Hollywood walk-of-Fame, including Matthew (Matty Arnold), are excited about the possibilities that Harvey's invest may bring. "We hope to possibly have episodes of Family Feud filmed here in the future. Maybe after a local band plays or something," Arnold said, "That, or like maybe a Steve Harvey brand of kombucha called 'manbucha.' In fact, we're already hard at work on it. It has grapes AND apples in it."
With the sizable investment from Harvey's investment group, the venue will also undergo a slight name change from Harvest House to the new (and improved) Steve Harvey's House. The actual name change won't go into effect for a few weeks. The new name will be emblazoned across the front of the venue in white neon letters by the middle of May. In addition, Harvey has expressed dissatisfaction with the new back-in angled parking on Hickory St. and is working with the city to develop a privately-owned parking garage across Bell from Steve Harvey's House.
Upon hearing this news, we took to the Denton downtown square area and asked people what they thought about the name change. Of 100 people surveyed, the number one response was "Great idea!"
