It's looking like springtime in Denton again now, y'all! Get outside and enjoy it. There's even a fun, new kid-friendly venue named Harvest House in town (complete with bocce ball). Below are a few family-friendly events going on this weekend. Get to it.
All weekend long
Battle of the Books | Online, or at any branch of the Denton Public Library | Free | All week long
Parents, it’s never too early to teach your children about brackets and odds. Each week, now through March 28, vote for your favorites books on twitter. The big winner will be announced on March 31. No gambling will be allowed, though, unless you’re betting juice boxes and ice cream.
Friday, March 13th
Sports Sampler | Denton Public Library | Free | 10am
Think your child might be ready for organized sports, but don’t know the right one? Join Parks and Rec for a come-and-go, hands-on, FREE preview of this season’s sports including Blastball, Bitty Basketball, and Start Smart Sports Programs. Ages 3-6. SCORE!
Lego Builders Club | Emily Fowler Library | Free | 4:30pm
The best place to play Legos is the place where you don’t have to clean them all up (or step on any). The Lego club uses a little bit of guided play as well as open play. Bring your kids (ages 6 and up), but leave your own Legos at home.
Saturday, March 14th
Flight Adventures | UNT Sky Theater | $3 | 12pm
Take in a show in the planetarium this Saturday. A special children’s show starts at noon and everyone pays kids’ price! Or stop by at 2pm for Sky Stories ($5 for adults), and Find out how different cultures explain the star patterns they saw in the night sky. Bonus: no parking permit is required on weekends!
UNT Softball | Lovelace Stadium | $5-$7 | 1pm and 3pm
It’s a double-header this Saturday against Southern Miss. Bring the family for a fun afternoon of ladies’ softball on a beautiful spring day. Go Mean Green!
Anyah Martinez is the mother of three busy boys and the founder of Explorium Denton, a children's museum taking shape in Denton.
