DESIGN DAY: February 12th, 6PM @ The Civic Center
The beloved Eureka park playground in south Denton has been in service for 20 years. It's been through quite a bit of hide and seek and even a little bit of freeze tag. It's time for an upgrade. And who better to come up with a design for the new park than the citizens who know the most about what they want to see in it, children.
Design Day for the build of the new park is February 12th. As part of the process for coming up with the most amazing, mind-blowing space for a kid to play, the designers are being spread out to all the elementary schools in Denton to gather ideas from those who will use it the most. At the end of the day, the designers will gather these ideas that have been drawn on the template and put together the ultimate playground that will eventually become Eureka 2. The unveiling of the designs will happen at 6pm at the Civic Center on February 12th. If you happen to not be an elementary school student, but still have some sweet ideas for what you want to see in a playground, you can download the drawing template here and email your finished work of art by Monday, February 9th to director@dentonparksfoundation.
When it's all said and done, the project will cost $500,000 which will be raised by the non-profit Parks Foundation Board. In November of 2015, the project will be built by volunteers from the community and enjoyed by the children who will come and visit it from around the area. Let's hope those kids (and you if you choose) make some pretty sweet park designs, y'all. Eureka Park (or awesome castle park as it is known by kids we know) is a pretty badass park. It will be missed (weird poison-covering goo aside). But a park designed by kids for kids? How cool will that be? We're crossing our fingers for rockets, dragons, mega-slides (a slide that's larger than other slides) and much more.
Check out the video below and get involved with the Parks Foundation and donate to this project which will be cherished by children and parkour enthusiasts for decades to come.
