Movie Tavern, Denton's premiere location for catching a flick in town, has recently undergone some changes. We stopped by for the opening reception earlier in March to watch a movie and celebrate the remodel. Read about our experience and why you should make a point to check out the remodel for your next vital movie watching session. We loved Logan ("I'm not a box of avocados, Logan!") and have heard good things about Get Out if you're wondering what to see).
Following an extensive renovation project, Denton's Movie Tavern location is basically a brand new facility. The overhaul - like much of the work completed in that part of town - was a lengthy process, but the finished product was worth the few months spent watching movies in a construction zone. Movie Tavern now features nine screens (a drastic improvement from the original four) that each have stadium seating in the new 53,157 sq. ft. space. Each screen is equipped with a state of the art projection system and sound system, as well. So you no longer have to cross your fingers and hope to get the "good theater" when you go see a movie. Every theater is now awesome. Additionally, every single seat has been updated to a "luxury lounger" with a call button and a tray for your food. We can personally vouch for their comfy-level, y'all.
Our favorite new feature is the ability to reserve your seat in advance. Gone are the days of showing up to your movie an hour early to make sure you get the best spot. Just check out MovieTavern.com early in the day (or week) in your pajamas at home and get those perfect seats right in the middle of the theater - no waiting in line involved.
The new full bar makes it very easy to match your drink to the movie you're watching - in our case whiskeys for those of us watching Logan and rum-based drinks for those of us watching King Kong. Food wise, there is a brand new menu with some great movie-watching grub. While we're always partial to the nachos or fried chicken sliders, we tried the blue cheese burger and loved it. The fratty dudes nearby had positive things to say about their French dip sandwich. The new slide out trays make it so that you don't even need to un-recline to pig out on your food.
From the outside, Movie Tavern has done a great deal to improve the exterior of the structure that sits at the corner of University and Hinkle tucked behind First Presbyterian Church. The new look is much more modern and is frankly does a lot to class up the string of shops known as "Denton Center."
The Dallas-based Movie Tavern looked to do right with their Denton customers with this renovation. “Being based in North Texas, the Denton community has always been an important part of our company’s history. Denton moviegoers have enthusiastically supported our approach to the in-theatre dining experience and we are excited to bring them an expanded venue with the upgraded experience they deserve,” Danny DiGiacomo, Vice President of Marketing for Movie Tavern, said.
We recommend heading over to catch a flick and some grub in the newly redone Movie Tavern ASAP. Heck, you can already reserve your tickets online for The Fate of the Furious, but if you're holding out for something a little less Vin Diesel-y, Power Rangers (featuring Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad fame) comes out this weekend and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is just around the corner.
