With the Spring graduation ceremonies of TWU and UNT now completed, and scant weeks left for our Denton ISD schools to ring their final bell, Summertime is officially looming just over our horizon. Now comes the inevitable question that reverberates: What can we do today? Since we love us some urban exploring close to home, in 2014 we began to catalog our favorite Offbeat Denton Sites then expanded with more Offbeat Denton Oddities in 2015. Denton has a great rap scene that often goes unnoticed and under-appreciated by the majority of show-goers. You probably already know some of the larger hip-hop artists in town, like AV the Great, Ritchy Flo, Wild Bill, Stu Brootal or Elijah Heaps. A few of them might be referred to as OG's of the Lil d rap scene, but there's another younger group of kids creating drug-addled beats with nerd-centric, indie rap lyrics who deserve to get some attention. So, this month we're talking about a few of these artists, specifically J3's Journal, Lil Durt and Xanni.

The weather is perfectly springy, the sun is out, the trees are in full bloom, and the crawfish boils have been abounding. This weekend is the mama jama of all local boils though - the 20th Annual Mudbug Boil on Hickory and Fry. This boil has been a great fundraiser for local non-profits and organizations in the community for years. Last year they raised over $35,000 for community initiatives.
