If you're worried about suffering from post-festival depression after the madness that is going to be Oaktopia, fret not. More fun events are on the way. PolaCon, the brand new convention that focuses on instant film photography, will be in downtown Denton on October 1st and 2nd. The event is put on by the Instant Film Society, Denton Camera Exchange, and FilmPhotographic (Jason Lee's co-curated film photography group). Read on to find out more about this festival and how you can take part.

Chris Brown is the publisher and creative director of Refueled Magazine, a publication working hard to share the life of artists and community members with its readers. Although not from Denton, Brown is connecting with and contributing to the Denton arts community in significant ways, and to us over here at WDDI, that makes him fair game!

We remember the days when this column used to be filled with photos of tacos and lattes. While we're happy that our photographic lineup has grown up, we can't say that we aren't sad at the lack of taco goodness in the #WDDI feed lately. What happened Denton? Have you fallen out of taco love? Are tacos no longer "cool?" Do the most recent VSCO filters not look that great when hoisted upon a fresh-made corn tortilla? Whatever the case, we better move on. We're getting too hungry.
What We Did is our weekly roundup of photos that WDDI staff and readers have taken over the past seven days. We've got 21 of our favorite images from the past week in Denton, TX below. And what a week it was. We saw Harvest House get to capacity for that famous-fella-who-wears-that-cool-hat's magazine party. The city started prepping hard for Oaktopia round 3. Oh, and North Texas Giving Day was another resounding success. Check out photos from these events and more in the posts below.
If you'd like to be included in What We Did, tag your images with #WDDI on Instagram, and check back here next Monday. As always, we're limited in the photos we can post, but we encourage you to search the hashtag #WDDI and check out all of the other awesome photos that we were unable to include this week. No one told us the GOP debate was going to last 3 hours so this is coming in a little late and with a little commentary. The good news is we live in Denton, a city where it’s very easy to find a cause or initiative to get behind and effect real change in our community. Today is North Texas Giving Day and some of us will be out on the square raising money for at-risk children, the homeless, the hungry, and many other sources of need that are right in our community. Imagine if the same amount of energy spent in the next few hours in Denton on social media things such as the debate went into trying to solve the issue of students showing up to Denton ISD schools hungry because they aren’t fed at home.

Sporting dark sunglasses and sipping black coffee, Dan Hammond’s demeanor calls to mind Tom Robbins– a suggestion that the Denton-based writer would certainly deflect. Stationed at the edge of the bar at West Oak Coffee, the humble Hammond thumbs away at a cell phone that he admits to not fully understanding. “My boys have had to teach me a lot about stuff like this.” He beams whenever we come to the subject of his two sons, and it’s clear that his passion for fatherhood is only matched by his love of writing.

What We Did is our weekly roundup of photos that WDDI staff and readers have taken over the past seven days. We've got sixteen of our favorite images from the week below. They feature plenty of live music, food, and more Jason Lee (because he apparently still loves us). Wonder if he's a fan of red spray paint...

Read MoreWHAT WE DID: SPECIAL THIN LINE 2015 EDITION
Thin Line kicked off the 2015 festival season with a bang. The Dallas Morning News called it, "the best North Texas festival you've probably never heard of," and Jason Lee apparently wants to move here because we're all so awesome. It's been a good couple of days with something for everyone. There were rap shows at Hailey's, great music at Dan's Silverleaf, photo galleries all around town, and tons of documentaries and short films with many of the actual filmmakers present. Below, are a bunch of photos tagged with #WDDI on Instagram (from both y'all and We Denton Do It contributors). Check them out for some instant nostalgia from the weekend.

Get your movie reviewing thumbs ready, y'all: Thin Line is back. The festival, which is nearing its tenth anniversary, started out strictly as a documentary film festival, but has gone on in the years since to include music and, as of this year, photography, as well. It has become a fixture of the festival circuit in Denton alongside 35 Denton, Arts and Jazz, and much more. Needless to say, there's plenty to do in downtown Denton for the next five days. Some WDDI contributors took a moment to comb through all of the activities happening during Thin Line and picked out some of our "can't miss" events. We left out the obvious (the Midlake tour documentary), but check out our post from yesterday if you'd like to know more about that one. You can check out the program for the entirety of the festival here.
