INSTANT FILM PHOTOGRAPHY CONVENTION IN DENTON
If you're worried about suffering from post-festival depression after the madness that is going to be Oaktopia, fret not. More fun events are on the way. PolaCon, the brand new convention that focuses on instant film photography, will be in downtown Denton on October 1st and 2nd. The event is put on by the Instant Film Society, Denton Camera Exchange, and FilmPhotographic (Jason Lee's co-curated film photography group). I will attempt to summarize the discussions of our city leaders while simultaneously encouraging folks to investigate even further. Or maybe even engage with the neighbors and strangers whom they agree or disagree. Today, the council will focus on two primary items: the 2016-17 budget approval, and the Renewable Denton Plan. Last week’s work session also included discussion on a proposed senior citizen property tax freeze, which has implications on future budget discussions. HUMANS OF NEW YORK IN DENTON
Brand Stanton is the creator of the force of nature that is Humans of New York. The New York-based photo blog gained popularity due to the emotional and intriguing quotes and interviews that accompanied the images (not to mention their sharable nature). You've undoubtedly seen them before. Heck, you've probably shared a couple of them yourself.
The fine folks at UNT's Fine Arts Series are bringing Stanton to Denton this month. Next Wednesday at 7pm, Stanton will be at the UNT Coliseum talking about the nature of his work in an evening called Humans of New York: An Evening with Brandon Stanton.
