Easter kept us hoppin’ and the Texas weather keeps us guessin’, but springtime in the Lil’ D means the Denton Community Market is back and festival season is just around the corner! Here is a look at our top #DEN10 events to check out as y’all are out and about #DENTONING this weekend.


THURSDAY, April 5th

Le Not-So-Hot Klub d'Denton | Barley & Board | 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM  
First Thursday brings the swingin’ Parisian sounds of gypsy jazz during Happy Hour. Tres bon!

Take Back The Night Candlelight Vigil | Denton Courthouse On The Square | 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, so Denton County Friends of the Family is sponsoring a resource fair to educate the public on local resources with a keynote speech and the annual candlelight vigil. Thursdays are also always poppin’ downtown with Glitterbomb at Andy’s, a bicycle social ride at Eastside, Salsa dancing at Mulberry St. Cantina, or live jazz at Steve’s Wine Bar, so plenty of good choices around the Square.

FRIDAY, April 6th

First Friday | Downtown Denton | 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM  
Experience Denton’s art scene in many forms on First Friday, an evening when businesses and galleries host activities and showcase material. GDAC spotlights the public dance performance of Brendan Fernandes.

UNT Jazz Singers with Johnaye Kendrick | Voertman Hall | 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM.  
The UNT College of Music and director Jennifer Barnes welcome guest artist Johnaye Kendrick for this special evening of jazz standards and special compositions. Tickets are $10. Also check out UNT Opera.

Raised Right Men | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 9:00 PM - 12:00 AM
Ain’t much better than boot-scootin’ to the Honky Tonk serenade of Denton’s favorite country troubadours, so mark your calendars for a night of toe-tapping tunes.


SATURDAY, April 7th

Denton Community Market Opening Day | Denton County Historic Park | 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM  
Our favorite day of spring is when the beloved Denton Community Market returns with a new season of bountiful delights, live music, local produce and crafty artisans, all punctuated with some Saturday Jazz Brunch at The Chestnut Tree after some Yoga On The Square. Make sure and swing by The DIME Store to help them celebrate their fifth birthday on Saturday, too! There will be all sorts of great festivities. 

Crawfish Boil with Jay-B and the Zydeco Posse | Dan’s SilverLeaf | 11:59 AM - 5:00 PM
Wooooo-eee, pardner, $25 all-you-can-eat crawfish with the side fixin’s is what we’re talkin’ about, with proceeds from the merry mudbug fête going to DMAC Denton. Put on your stretchy eatin’ pants!!

TacoFest | Lucky Lou’s | 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM  
Back for a second year, TACOFEST on Fry Street features local vendors, t-shirts, live bands, and cute dogs for cuddling and adoption in this fundraiser for the Denton Animal Shelter… Do it for the puppies! But also the tacos.

Cirque Italia  | NTX Fairgrounds | Thurs-Sun shows  
Performers from all over the world have been brought together under the enchanted spiral of the white and blue big top. The merging of their astonishing skills with the poetic element of water has led to the creation of a truly unforgettable experience. Aquatic Spectacular is Cirque Italia’s brand-new theme show, an artistic blend of human abilities, technology, and the element of water. This one-of-a-kind production combines water fountains, jet-skis, pirates, and more in a fun-filled atmosphere all ages are sure to enjoy.

SUNDAY, April 8th

Heathers: The Musical | Campus Theater | 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM matinee, 7:30p nightly
Based on the 1988 cult film, Heathers is a dark comedy that deals with serious issues of bullying, teen suicide, murder, homophobia, and gun violence that occur when high school students vie for the top of the social ladder.  Rock music score, with mature themes, language, and dark humor.
